I saw this advertised on the back of an angling magazine and it is within my price range; would it suit an absolute beginner? Is the quality likely to be acceptable, and what might I want to add to it immediately, if anything?

As I am completely new to fishing and I am just starting to learn the basic terminology, could you tell me what sort of fishing this package would be good for- is it made for fishing in managed lakes, for example?

Thanks!

  1. Disgard the 4 pound line also the eyed hooks,Apart from that the rod  and reel look good,You will also need a landing net and a box to sit on,and an umbrella.Plus appropriate licenses.

  2. Yeh, this kits ok for a beginner. All the gear is reasonable makes, certainly good enough to get you started. you might wanna think bout getting a landing net & handle, case you get lucky. This is enough to get you started on ponds or even rivers. Once you get into it you can start to get better gear. I have dealt with Bennett's in the past & found them good. It still might be worth your while going to your local tackle shop & telling them what you wanna do, they may well give you a better deal + loads of good, local advice. Good Luck

  3. okay. You would want to throw away the line they give you, and put on some 20lb test. A good beginner rig is a ugly stick rod reel combo. It comes with all the tackel you need to start out with. Again replace with 20lb test. They have them at walmart for like $25 in the states. Couldn't find a site that sold them. Good luck though!
