I know that the emperor had to be King of some place (such as Maria Theresa's husband was Holy Roman Emperor, and she was Archduchess of Austria, and Queen of Bohemia and Hungary), so would their kids be Prince/Princess of X (wherever he was also King, or in this case his wife?) or would they also become Holy Roman Prince or Princess??

Im sorry, i know its confusing.

but it'd be much appreciated

  1. No they would be called Archdukes, or Archduchesses, the children of emperors are almost always Archdukes, or Archduchesses unless they are ruling another area, and that would change their title completely.

  2. This all depends on the circumstances.  If the son or daughter are already ruling somewhere else, they cannot assume rule over where their father or mother were ruling unless they denounced their rule first of their present kingdom.

  3. Since the “Holy Roman Emperor” title is not "hereditary", if the Holy Roman Emperor dies, the council votes someone else, who fits its criteria. Holy Roman Empress or Empress of the Holy Roman Empire is the title given to the consort of the Holy Roman Emperor. The elective dignity of Holy Roman Emperor was restricted to males only, therefore there was never a Holy Roman Empress regnant. Children of the Holy Emperor would not receive any additional Roman titles and styles, they would continued to be formally addressed as whatever titles they were born with.

Note: The title of Archduke/Archduchess) denotes a rank above Duke and under King, but is too rare and yet has uses too diverse to be given a fixed relative position within the former Holy Roman Empire to which it was restricted. It has only ever been continuously borne by princes of the House of Habsburg and later through the female line into the House of Habsburg-Lorraine. This title of archducal rank must be officially granted it by the Holy Roman Emperor.

  4. Rachelle is right  (but then she always is).
