Would the study of plants be considered geology too?

I know plants are biology and botany but could it be classified as geology too?

  1. No, just biology and botany. Geology is completely different.

  3. Not really, it has little to do with earth or rocks.

    I suppose they overlap a little, since plants do get their nutrition from the soil.  But I would still say botany and not geology.

  4. There would be an overlap in paleobotany (study of ancient plants) through fossils, but that would be the extent of the relationship with plants.

    Some botanists do study geology to better understand the effects of soil, bedrock, and topography (the "shape" of the land, whether flat, mountainous, or in between).

    Geology is mostly concerned with the Earth's physical make-up (minerals, rocks, landforms) and how it got to be the way it is today - "Geo" means earth.
