Question:

Would there be any side effects to taking EC if you're not pregnant?

Now that EC is available without a prescription, it's possible to get Plan B even if you're not pregnant. So if you take Plan B and you're not pregnant, would there be any side effects?

And if this is a stupid question, I wouldn't know. Because yes, I am inexperienced. That's why I'm asking.

Thanks in advance.

  1. EC is made to be taken before you know if you are pregnant, with or without a prescription. (so it is designed to possibly be taken by nonpregnant women, you might want to ask your medical provider for any side effects)  While I am not an EC proponent (believing that the time to prevent having children is BEFORE you have s*x) i understand it use and necessity in our society.  However, i would encourage you to pursue traditional birth control methods, and to not rely on EC as birth control.  If you plan on having s*x, plan on being responsible, and if you can't be responsible, you shouldn't be having s*x.

  2. Well emergency contraception is made for anyone who has had unprotected s*x or a slip-up, most s*x (unprotected) does not result in pregnancy, if you did not end up conceiving and you take plan B you will be fine. The only side effects you may get are those described on directions in the package i.e. heavier than usual bleeding, you may bleed when you weren't expecting to, you may have cramping or nausea.
