i'm going to be a sophmore, and i've never had a pet, because my parents dont want one, and i'm really eager to get one, and i want to get one my freshman year of college--i know they aren't allowed, but what would happen if they found out i snuck one in? would they take drastic measures and resort to expulsion?

  1. I wouldn't try it. You could try to find an animal shelter close to your college and volenteer there when you have free time. You can do things like walk and play with dogs there and stuff.

  2. I've had rats in my dorm room for years, and I've never been caught. A friend of mine actually brought a dog in, though, and they got caught. They were just given a week to get rid of it. After that there would have been more trouble, but I don't think you would have a major problem.

The only thing that would be an issue is that Guinea Pigs do get loud. You would have to be very good at disguising the noises. I would try something else first like a hamster or mice. Something that would be easy to hide in the case of room inspections. Guinea pigs need a lot of space, and it would be very difficult to hide the cage.

Otherwise, I can't imagine that you would have too many problems. Good luck!

  3. They might I am not sure though

  4. It's unlikely that there would be severe consequences for you.  You might be given a fine and would have to get rid of the guinea pig.

However, the consequences for the guinea pig would be severe.  You risk having to dump the guinea pig off at a shelter where he may or may not be put to sleep.  Unless you have a great home lined up that could keep the pig until the end of the semester, then don't do it.  It's completely unfair to the guinea pig.

  5. No, there wouldn't be severe consequences. You will be charged money for cleaning costs and the animal would have to be removed- if they found it.

Why don't you wait until your sophomore year of college, when you can live elsewhere in a pet friendly place?

If you do have a guinea pig in your dorm, be prepared to keep its cages under your bed or in your closet, and keep it VERY CLEAN so there is no smell.

I wouldn't risk it- because if it is found, you'll have to get rid of it.
