everything i've read about tank setups for newts said to use large gravel that a newt can't swallow. would this size be good? i think i should get a different color, but if you think the bright colors of this one are fine let me know.

also, if you could give links to things you suggest i should get for a newt tank, that would be great. like things from petco and petsmart, like plants, filters, a hiding place, or anything else i could add. thanks=)

  1. ok i dont know what newt your getting but the basic idea is dont give them any gravel smaller then its head and nothing that could be called sharp (some newts such as fire belly newts have very soft under bellies)

i use naturally worn pebbles from the beach there free and to clean them just soak in boiling water (water straight out of the kettle u dont have to keep it boiling lol) over night 3 or 4 times this should clean them.

here a site with loads of tip and stuff about setting up a amphibian tank http://exoticpets.about.com/cs/amphibian... it also has lot of information about keeping newts and salamanders as pets

    hope this helps
