Would these help me with ballet?

Because it is my first year doing ballet and I'm in my teens, would pilates, yoga, jazz, contemporary, zumba, and a hip hop class help strengthen my core and ankles?

  1. okay here's what you need to understand. ballet is the basic of every type of dance. ballet is what started it all. If your really want ballet to be your main focus i wouldn't take hip hop, jazz zumba or contemporary because in those styles of dance they teach you to turn in your knees and keep your feet straight foward instead of turned out. yoga and pilates would help because it will keep your muscles moving and make you more flexable. wait until you become a very expericance ballet dancer before you take other styles of dance. hope i could help and good luck =)


  2. if you want to focus on ballet, that's exactly what you should do. however, pilates and yoga help A LOT, and it can be helpful to take a variety of classes just to help you move better and connect with the music. as long as you concentrate on your technique in ballet, you should be fine. i didn't take any styles other than ballet and pointe until a few years ago, when i was 11.

    start out with mostly ballet classes, a pilates/yoga class, and maybe one other like contemporary, which is very similar to ballet. is this your first year dancing at all? if it is, make sure you don't overwhelm yourself by doing too many classes a week.

  4. pilates is great! teaches you about youre core and everything

    but its true that ballet is the main thing every other type of dance is a branch out from that especially lyrical pilates will help you stretch and balance but if youre going to take lets say 2 classes take them both ballet dont take pilates if you only have two hours to dance if you want to be good at ballet stick with ballet when youre ready to add on THEN take pilates, jazz contemporary and all of those are really fun tho but they do teach you very different things
