Would they make me pay rent?

My mum is very ill & can't work so she gets her rent payed for her by the housing benefit but im getting a job soon so will they then make me pay for rent..?

If you live with your mum, they will take your earnings in to account when calculating your mothers housing benefit allowance. Depending on how much you earn, it could have a negative affect on what she is eligible for. This is something you will need to discuss with Housing Benefit, as only they can advise what affect, if any, your new job will have on your mums claim.

Call the housing department and ask them. Just do an annonymum call don't give them any of your mom info. Just call and ask. They might not charge you because the free rent is for your mom's benefit not yours.

As you live at home they will take your earnings into consideration and assume that you are contributing towards the household expenses and as such the amount they pay your mother towards/for rent IS likely to be reduced.

If you live with your Mum,they will take your earnings into account to calculate her housing benefit and you will have to make up the shortfall from her benefit to the full rent.
