Question:

Would this (Shantung) dress be too hot for summer?

The church isn't air-conditioned and the wedding is currently scheduled for late August in Minnesota. I don't know how hot "Shantung" (the fabric that the designers list) is. My guess is that it is a polyester fabric, since they probably would have said "silk Shantung" if it were silk? But I don't know.

Do you think this dress style and fabric would be too hot for my wedding?

  1. The dress is perfectly appropriate.

I have this dress in my store- we've had brides order it in Ivory as a wedding dress, or in colors for bridesmaids. You are correct on the fabric- it is a polyester shantung. The dress itself is very light and easy to wear.

  2. I think that dress would be ok.

Doing something shorter would be nice, but I think that would be just fine either way.

Maybe they could carry pretty fans down the aisle as well...

  3. It might be. I think the deep v-neck is a little inappropriate for a church wedding. Unless the bridesmaids are an A cup they are going to be spilling out of the sides of it and probably won't be feeling very good about it. Do you really want the guests looking at your bridesmaids chest as they walk down the aisle instead of you?

  4. If your getting married inside then no. But if your getting married outside then yes

  5. Unless it specifically states, "silk" assume that it's polyester. If the temperature is going to be 85 degress or more, you can bet it would be too hot for either. Silk doesn't hold up well with that much sweating, and will stain. Polyester doesn't breathe, which could cause excessive perspiration, itching, and a nasty heat rash.

If you must wear it, try giving your skin a light coating of cornstarch baby powder.

  6. hmm. i know im notmuch help to you but tthe dress is beautiful.

  7. I think the dress would be just fine.    You want a long dress, and that one is pretty bare on top without being too bare.  I think it is very pretty.   Shantung is not normally a heavy fabric.   I had a silk shantung dress many years ago, and it had body, but was not stiff.

Order it and see how you like it.  If it is not to your liking, send it back.   I think it is very lovely.

  8. You should be okay. Shantung fabric is pretty light. I sell wedding dresses and have handled this kind of fabric. It's lighter than satin for sure, almost as light, if not lighter, as taffeta. By the way, those dresses are gorgeous!

  9. Those dresses are GORGEOUS!!! I want one! and they are perfect for summertime. and a wedding?? just too classy! Alright!

  10. it does look like heavy fabric. i guess your not going with the conventional bug and puffy and white style. if your going to break from tradition anyway, go all the way with a dress that goes just past your knees, quarter sleebe boat neck. how does that sound? then again, i don't live in Minnesota so i don't know what the weather is gonna be like. also, age and personnel style have to be accounted for when it comes to dressess. but i'll stick to what i said. the fabric seems to have a lot of layers. it looks dense and heavy.

  11. I assume it is for yourself as an after wedding dress dress or for the bridesmaids.  But I don't know.

So, I think it would be fine in Minnesota in August.  It is sleevless so it should be fine.  Go to a fabric store and feel the material - I think it is on the heavy or stiff side like taffeta only with more tecture.  It is a beautiful shaped fabric if I remember correctly.  Or just order the dress and see if you like it.  Send it back if you don't.

  12. If its real shantung its silk, which should be comfortable for a summer wedding and beautiful too!
