I am looking into buying this Phillips TV http://www.buy.com/prod/philips-47pfl5603d-27-47-widescreen-1080p-lcd-hdtv-29000-1-dynamic/q/loc/111/206928664.html but want to know for sure that the tuner that it comes with will convert my normal non-HD channels I get through my cable box in HD size. I understand that the quality might not be 100% HD, but I at least want the ratio of a normal 16:9 widescreen converted, instead of the HD ready monitors that only stretch the image and distorse it. Thanks for your answers.

  1. Every HDTV will scale any input signal to its native resolution.

Most TVs have special "Aspect" or "zoom" options to scale a 4:3 to a variety of 16:9 options (stretch, smart stretch, etc.)
