Question:

Would this affect my chances of getting into UCSD?

Freshman year i got around 3.0-3.5 GPA. Sophmore year I decided that I wanted to get into a good college so I started working hard and pulled it to a 4.0; however, my GPA from the summer after freshman year brought it down to a 3.75. Do the adminstrators see the year GPA and Summer GPA seperate or together? In coming fall I finally got a majority of AP and honor classes in my schedule but I got B's in summer school this summer too.

p.s. anyone have any other suggestions on a UC, for me, I think UCSD is aiming a little to high for me. I was considering UCSB or UCI?

-Thanks

  1. all the uc's are great. berkeley, ucla, and ucsd are top tier. then sb and irvine. i don't know how you'd categorize the rest. really though, they're all good, and i firmly believe you can get a good education almost anywhere. it's up to the student to make or break the value of their education.

as for real advice....you need to talk to a counselor at your school. they are welllll versed in everything you could want to know about getting into college. it's their job. they can best advise you.

  2. I am fairly certain the summer is part of the school year and your freshman year grades don't count toward the UC GPA.  If you want to make certain, either take a look at the UC application now or ask a counselor.

You should apply to a bunch of UCs and choose from the ones you get admitted.  You should not eliminate yourself just because you don't think you won't get in.  Only the admissions committee have the final say.  Applying to schools cost money but it is well worth the investment.  UCs are looking for diversity so they are not always looking for students with the highest GPAs although academics play an important role.
