Would this be a good idea?

so i am thinking, barrel racing? you want everything to be light right? then i think of jockies, how they are so thin so that they can try and make the horse go faster. no i think, couldent this also apply to barrel racing? i am thinking of doing a little expirment. i would time myself barrel racing now at 175 pounds, (i am tall, 5 foot 7 and a quater. it evens out.) and then i would lose 10 or more pounds the healthy way. once i have reached a certian weight, i will time myself again. see if it affects the speed time. do you this would be effective and work? should i even do it? what do you guys think?

but you get the idea...she gets like 17 sec so you should be fine

  2. i wouldn't try to change your body weight.  i do not know that much about barrel racing but it probably has a lot to do with your strength.  so instead of trying to lose weight work on strengthening yourself.

  3. this would be an interesting study.  maybe you could do times for each 5 lbs that you drop?  you could chart it more, and see if there is a pattern there.

    best of luck with this.

  4. i think this would be a idea to try

  5. i think it would be a good idea only if you safely tried to lose the pounds

  6. you dont need to change your weight to barrel race you should be fine and even if you do when you go to time yourself again it will be faster because you will have had more practice at it as long as you have a 20-25 pound saddle you will be fine

  7. I think you will find your times faster - yes, less weight will shave off some time, but you will also feel better, be more limber and have more energy and strength.   All these benefits of losing a few pounds will help your times, so when you get faster thank your overall good health, and not just a lighter load for the horse.
