Would this be a good job to take to "grow" with a museum: gift shop associate? I've no museum experience but ?

I have a BA in art history and anthro. Do you think i'd be able to get promoted to a job within the museum itself? Would it help my chances when I apply for "real museum jobs" if I have worked in a museum giftshop?

Most companies prefer to hire within before going to an outside source.  I would say go for it, it can't hurt to try.  I don't know that it would help you when applying for a museum job elsewhere, but any experience is better than none.
