  1. do you need to schedule everything

  2. I think it is a good schedule for a basic guide.  There are a few things I'd watch out for though.  First you may get through things a lot faster than you think you will.  If you finish something early, feel free to move onto something else or explore more.  That is part of the beauty of home education.

It would be great if you could have things less scheduled, but I can see that since you are going to be home alone for quite awhile your dad might want you to have some sort of structure to keep you on track.  If you are finding that you are doing fine, I would relax the schedule in the months ahead.

Also don't forget that all learning doesn't come from books or courses.  As a homeschooler, you can explore things that interest you indepth at your own pace.  You also have the opportunity to go out into the real world and learn from others and your surroundings.  Don't forget to be open to those experiences.

  3. It's a good routine, but a bit rigid. Homeschooling gives you the opportunity to be flexible. If you ned more time for something or finish something sooner than planned, it's fine. If you have a ay where your schedule just wont work, you can change it around to fit your needs. You might also want to see about joining a local homeschool group so you can network with other homeschoolers, maybe have some classes with them, and be able to go off on field trips or out of club activities and such some days. It's good you're planning ahead, and if you haven't talked it over with dad yet, this is something good to show him.

  4. No. the authority would not accept this, this is not being home-schooled if you are working independently while your dad is at work. depending on your age there may also be child protection issues linked to you staying home alone.

  5. Ignore jodie f, there is NO child protection issue, you're 14 years old for goodness sake, not that there's an actual legal set age for being left at home, but nobody is going to freak over a 14 year old being 'home alone', and frankly stuff what the LA thinks about it! Your education is your father's responsibility, not theirs!

I'd just say don't tie yourself to a bunch of set lessons. What's the point of doing a set one hour of something? If you're bored after 10 minutes you won't learn anything, OTOH if you're really getting into something why stop? Unless you're studying for an exam of some sort you're much better off following a project approach and things that interest you.

Also look for any local home ed groups who might arrange trips, talks or regular classes (e.g. my daughter has a weekly French class and last week we had a day out visiting a local pottery).
