Question:

Would this be an appropriate question to ask

I am going to go to Paul Mitchell The School next fall, I have been talking a lot to the Administrations Leader on the phone and we met once in person. They obviously do peoples hair a lot there and they charge a fee, would it be rude to ask her if we get a portion of what they pay if we are the one that did their hair? If so, would would be a better way to state the question? This is a really weird question, but I just want to be on good terms with her for obvious reasons. Thank you!

  1. I'm a hairdresser, I've got you covered. You will learn it all on orientation. I'm sure there are stages and test and as you pass each one your salary will increase. You just look good, and thank them for a wonderful opportunity! Congratulations!

  2. If you do not receive your answer during your orientation, then you can ask by presenting the question as if it was someone else was wondering and not you.   For example, you could say, "My aunt was talking to me and said, "I bet you will be making money cutting hair while you are at the school, that will be nice."  Then you can say, "by the way, what is the protocol for this?" A few people have asked me about this and I didn't know?

  3. Ask them what people will be paying for there cuts, here in Australia colleges ask for "dummies" to practice on and i think they pay a $5.00 admin fee in which case no you would not get anything.

  4. I would wait until the orientation to ask the question. You have been talking a lot to the Admin leader and you wouldn't want to appear too  difficult or nosy.

I doubt you'd actually get a commission as you are a student and this would be a learning process. You could ask a senior or former student about it.

  5. well that is not weird because its reality and maybe she forgot to tell you or by asking you can be helpful for the future students...you can make up something like " Ms So and So..last night I was talking with my (mom..whoever) and they me if I'd be getting tips....and I never thought of that...so I figured I'd better ask you now in person than be embarrassed out in front of the class and our customers....say you want you to know just in case someone hands you something and that you  want to make sure I know the policy and do the right thing?!......that should be ok to ask....oh just an FYI..since you are going to a "learning" school you must realize that the prices are dramatically lower than at a salon..having said that you may just get a couple of bucks at a time.....good luck to your future!

  6. When you get there everything should be explained to you then. So wait until they have their orientation meeting then if you still have questions, you can ask them at that time.
