Would this be considered some kind of a chestnut?

I met and rode a new horse today, but I'm not sure of his color. Sadly there are no pictures, so they can't help. :(

His mane& tail is a bright red. His coat is a deep ashy brown. No white marks or stockings. I've never seen I coloring like it, but what would it be called?

  1. Is it something like this? http://www.tn-dressur.de/bilder/zuchthen...  If so, that is a liver chestnut. It could also be a dun of sorts (like a dark red dun) http://image4.equinenow.com/equine/data/...

  2. Was it a roan?

    Or a red dun?

  5. i don't know if it is a specific colour but ..he sounds GORGEOUS!!!! ;-) are you buying him? x

  6. sounds like a liver chestnut to me. colored basically like this??

if so, definately a liver chestnut.

  7. Sounds like a liver chestnut to me too(aka "chocolate" chestnut)!!  My second choice would be a sorrel(aka Chestnut)..but they tend to be more red-copper-orangey color with more red than brown which would be noticed by the color of the skin.
