Question:

Would this be funny or just plain mean (birthday gift)?

About a month ago, my sister-in-law got arrested for stealing clothes from a store. BUT, she lied to her family about it (because she was ashamed, I guess) and said that she got pulled over for speeding and there was some marijuana in her glovebox (that apparently, her boyfriend left in there and she didn't know it) and that's why she got arrested. Well, some of us know the truth (from her "good" friend) and she still thinks we believe the lie.

Well, anyway, her birthday is coming up and my husband said that he was thinking about getting her a gift certificate for the same store she got caught stealing in. She won't be able to use it because she's not allowed back in there any time soon. He thinks it's a great way for teaching her not to lie to him.

What do you think? Should he do it?

  1. I actually think that is not mean. She thinks you don't know. I think you should give it to her.

It would teach her a lesson about lying and she would really wonder whether or not you know.

    :)

  2. I think should should buy her gift certificates from the store on either side of the store she got shop lifting in. That way she has to walk past that store when going from one store to the other to use these gift certificates. You could also buy a pair of handcuffs and something from that store she got caught shop lifting in, preferably items similar to you she tried to steal. Maybe then she will realize that you guys know the truth about it.There's nothing like tough love to straiten someone out. Don't forget to bake her a cake with a file in it she can use to escape from jail with if she goes there. LOL :}

Good Luck and have a fun time at her birthday party.

  3. I definitely think that yall should do it!  I think it would teach her a great lesson plus be incredibly funny.   Thats very creative, I say go for it :)

    Good luck!

  4. The only problem I would have with it is if you give it to her she might break the law and try to go back to that store. Or she will just go to a different location then the one she tried to rob. If you get one, make sure it mdoesn't have any money on it, or get it for a $1. Then get her another one to a different clothing store since she seems to need clothes really bad. Or just get he one to a different store and write that on the card. (Since you seem to need some new clothes really bad, so much that you would even steal some...) I think that would be even funnier.

  5. HILARIOUS!

  6. Lmao! I gotta say go forit! cause stealing isnt right! and neither is lieing! Teaching her a lesson, for sure I'd do it!

  7. Yes, he should do it. No one "knows" that she got caught stealing clothes from this store..

  8. Do it if you would like for someone to do the same thing to you if you were in her situation.

  9. It is hilarious but I, personally, couldn't do it.  I'm that "too nice" girl that Oprah did a show about, LOL.  I would love to be a fly on the wall though!

  10. I love it!  Although I have a twisted sense of humor, too.  Absolutely funny!!!!!

  11. I can't believe your sister would rather be arrested for grass than shoplifting and her folks thought it was okay?

No its not a good idea.. its plain mean.

You can tell her that you do know and if she doesn't tell your folks the truth you will.

A liar doesn't change anything but their story.

  12. Do it and watch her reaction when she opens it. Make sure to get it on tape. Hopefully it will teach her a lesson but doubt it.

  13. YES! Do it!

  14. funny but also mean, give her gift certificate to another store

  15. Yes because she still thinks he believes the lie and then she would admit to lying and then he would say,"I know" so he should do it.

  16. OMG, too funny.  I'd do it.  But that's just me and my sarcastic sense of humor.  :)

  17. Do it, she might realize that you know but that is too funny to not do it.

  18. I think it would be mean. If you know the truth, you should just confront her about it and "teach" her that way. That's the way families do things. I agree that if she were a distant friend, it would be kind of funny because you would have no obligation to be nice to her. But she IS family (although just a sister-in-law) so don't make her feal self-conscious and embarassed. Just give her a gift-certificate for another store so she can buy clothes without stealing.
