Question:

Would this be illegal?

I'm pregnant and about to start my senior year of high school, I signed up to be on the yearbook committee this year, and the school takes the yearbook VERY seriously, they yearbook staff stays after school everyday until 7PM, and the teacher that sponsors is, is very picky about who she lets on the committee, she has to interview each student, and make sure they're dedicated, etc. But I'm scared that once this teacher finds out that I'm pregnant, she isn't going to want me on the committee, even though I'm still going to be as dedicated as I was going to be even if I wasn't pregnant. The baby isn't even going to be born until after yearbook is over. But I was just wondering if it would be illegal for her to kick me out simply because I'm pregnant?

  1. Wow.

    1. It wouldn't be illegal for you to be kicked out of yearbook on the basis that your pregnant.

    2. Your seriously worried about some stupid yearbook thing while pregnant? What in the world is wrong with you? Your about to bring a child into the world and the first thing that comes to concern is your yearbook? Think again. This baby is going to change your life (that is if you keep it, even if it goes up for adoption, you'll never be the same again).

  2. it would be illegal for her to kick you off just for being pregnant, but she could probably get away with it by saying she didn't think you would be dedicated enough.

  3. I don't think you can be kicked out if your doing what your suppose to be doing. That would be discrimating.

  4. the yearbook committee is funded by the student activity fee which means its open to all students. as far as being asked to leave because of pregnancy, that would violate school policy.

  5. Yes, in fact it IS illegal for her to deny you a position based solely on your pregnancy. You do NOT have to tell her you are pregnant, and if you are afraid of this, then do not tell her. It isn't any of her business.

I congratulate you for staying in school and being active in your own education. Although others may say things to you about immaturity for worrying about the yearbook, I think you are more mature than most for deciding to stay in school.

  6. That would be what you call discrimination.

  7. If you're pregnant and in high school, you certainly have bigger things to worry about than yearbook staff.

Clearly you aren't ready for this baby.
