Question:

Would this be inappropriate??

I've been looking for a job for sometime(nearly a year). Nothing was really panning out so I went back to school. Well things were starting to look up and I got a job that fit around my school schedule and my daughter's preschool schedule.

The job(which is helping elderly people do cleaning, food prep etc in their homes) kind of fell through at least for the time being. I don't know how stable the job is going to be, so I went on craigslist looking for another job. I'm taking some Early Childhood Ed classes, so I looked to see if there were any jobs avail at any local preschools or elem schools. It just so happens that my daughter's preschool (a small home daycare/preschool) is hiring a new employee. So would it be appropriate to inquire about a job there, considering my daughter goes there. I know my daughter would love that(being able to spend more time with her and all)?

  1. Absolutely appropriate! And most preschools would prefer to hire someone whose already got a kid in the school. Plus you'll either get free childcare or a discount (yeah you!).

Since you're taking the appropriate classes I think the school would definitely consider you. I say go for it!

  2. Thats totally fine... when I was in elementary school BOTH my parents were teachers at my school... now Im scarred for life of course.. but dont worry, your daughter is young and will get over it lol... just kidding!  You should totally go for the job! Plus you have the added benefit of being around your daughter!

  3. It would be fine, if they wanted to hire you.

Several of my friends have done the same thing.

  4. it would not be inappropriate unless you gave all your attention to just her. my mom worked at my school and it was helpful for me. it was nice to see her, but we both new that we had jobs to do. if i needed her though, she was nearby

  5. First.......your not there to spend time with your daughter.....your there to work.......this may be a huge issue with your daughter.........and in most cases will not work out.........you may be the best of the best but your daughter in the same care facility will get you fired........when you start spending more time with your daughter and not the other kids your gone.........

  6. It definately would not be inappropriate to ask for a job there.  A lot of parents work at the child care facilities that their children go to.  If they do not hire parents of the children they watch, they will let you know.  As a quick suggestion for you, if you have difficulty finding a job and your major is Early childhood ed, you might consider volunteering for a few hours at one of the local schools.  This is a great way to meet people and to gain experience. You may not be making any money, but the contacts you will make will be priceless.  Also, in most states, substitute preschool teachers are very hard to find.  Depending on the state you live in, you may meet the criteria to do that type of work.  Depending on how many college hours you have, you may even be able to substitute teach for regular school classes as well.  Just some job search suggestions if this one doesn't pan out for you.  But it definatley is not inappropriate to ask about a job at your childs child care facility.
