i heard your supposed to take your dog out 2-3 times a day, i can't do that but i do take it out once for an hour minimum daily. this is ok for him right? (he's a small dog, he doesn't have THAT much energy, he seems pretty exhausted when we get home!)

  1. small dog walking for an hour with no other exercise.  i would be exhausted too.

  2. it's okay...it's up to you for take out your dog...

But it recommended to take out your dog daily

  3. Well, no not really, but if You HAVE to , maybe.  I would be worried about his bladder, not the energy (although exercise is VERY important!)  Try to walk him in the mornings or before you leave for work, or whenever you have time.  Leave him with plenty of toys and rawhides (although he may need supervision with rawhides).   Maybe you can arrange for a neighbor to let him out when you cannot.  Good luck!!!

    Hope I helped!

  4. as long as ur dog is getting out and doing its potty at regular times and having a walk every day he should be nice and healthy. while inside give him toys and play with him so he can do some running around in the house, this way he is still burning off energy and excersizing his joints and heart. get into a routine where he can chase a ball and jaunt around the house to keep him moving . good luck

  5. i had a small dog, she loved to go out for short intervals like 15 minutes twice or thrice a day. as she grew older we started taking her only for 30-40 minutes a day. but we did play with her a lot inside home. an hour seems to be quite a lot, try to distribute it as 30 mins twice a day.

  6. You are doing fine.  If the dog is getting a long exercise session once during the day and then getting the opportunity to "take care of business" and maybe even roam the yard for a little bit, that is fine if your dog is the lower/mid energy type of breed.

Your dog will let you know if it is not enough.  Usually, it will show in more destructive or "insane" behaviors (like constantly barking, lack of ability to focus, etc.)  When you are home, you probably want to give him the personal attention that he really does not get on your walk or when you are away.  Dogs are social animals and usually crave human contact.  However, your exercise routine seems to be fine.
