Question:

Would this be okay for the ceremony music?

I'm having an outdoor ceremony and I was wondering if it would be okay to "make my own" music CD to be played.

I'm not a fan of the typical classical music to be played while waiting. I like the idea of creating a CD with ONLY the music playing (no vocals) of different songs.

For example, I would have with instruments of "When You Say Nothing at All" by Alison Krauss and Michael Buble's "Put Your Head on My Shoulder". There would be no vocals, just the instruments playing. I would have soft slow songs as such playing and then when the bridal party and bride arrives, "Ave Maria" (Celine Dion version) would play, including vocals.

Does this sound weird or what? I love the idea but not sure how to pull it off!

  1. I did this same thing for my wedding.  We made our own CD for the ceremony itself, as well as CDs for the reception afterwards.  We had an outdoor wedding and just set the stereo up to the side of the ceremonial area.  My brother-in- law was in charge of hitting the right track when the procession started.  It worked well.

  2. Since it is an outdoor wedding and not in say a Catholic Church, were only secular music is allowed; rock it out. I have no idea how to make it happen by using music and no vocals, but if you already have that taken care of, that sounds freaking awesome. We spent about $200 on someone to play the organ, at our ceremony, and ours was a Catholic affair, so I did not get the music I would have liked. I instead walked down the aisle to Ca-nan and Dee, turned out more beautiful than what I wanted. Anyway its your wedding and your day, I say DO IT YOUR WAY!!. GOOD LUCK

  3. It will work because there will be cues as to what is happening as the wedding progresses.    For example, guests know when to stand up for the Bride to enter because they hear "The Wedding March", and the Minister motions for them to stand up.  In your case, as long as you have the Minister (or whoever is marrying you) in front motioning for people to stand, it will be fine.  The guests are mostly just watching, so your wedding party and parents need to be told when to walk, etc. If the person cuing the music is not set up near the wedding party (perhaps the music system is in the front of the church, say) you need to make sure the bridesmaids know when to walk down the isle.  Also check how long the songs are, so you don't have lots of time when nothing is happening and just music is playing....and playing.....and playing.

  4. Why don't you get some musicians to play live at your wedding ceremony.  You would then be able to get them to play instrumental versions of the songs you want, without the vocals.  Having real musicians will also really add to the sense of the occasion.

  5. I think it sounds great and very creative.   I just love Michael Buble and When you Say Nothing at All.

Ava Maria is usually played when the bride presents flowers to the Virgin Mary.  But I think it would be perfect when they are walking down the aisle.

You may just start something when everyone comes to your wedding.  I wish I  would have thought to do that.

Congratulations and Kudo's to you for stepping out of the box and doing it your way.

  6. That sounds great, and I'm sure it's a money saver. As long as you have the speakers to do it, good sound, and someone to take care of it for you, I say go for it!

  7. I think this is a great idea.  My cousin just got married and she made her own cd for the ceremony, but when she made it she put the songs in the wrong order.  No one really knew that it was the wrong order, but just make sure the person who is going to be in charge of "pressing play" knows what is going on.

The songs you picked are good as well.  Another one I have seen done at weddings is "God Bless the Broken Road" by rascal flatts (my friend had her sister sing it acapela and it was beautiful)
