Question:

Would this be on my credit?

Two weeks ago, this guy that wanted to rent me his house gave me a credit application. I filled it out, and he said he would run it through and get back to me. Three days later, he said he was going to go with someone else because my credit wasn't up to par. I was confused, so I ran my credit report yesterday, and noticed the "credit inquiries" section. According to all 3 credit agencies, NO ONE has run my credit since March. Is there some way he could have done this without it being on my report by now?

  1. It's entirely possible he made direct calls. Plus, there are about 14 companies who report credit. You and I are aware of only the big three. Some are geared specifically for mortgage/rent, so yes, he could have run your report somewhere else.

You might be interest in a free report about credit management and credit reporting. You can find a link in the left column of the page indicated below.

  2. He may not have used one of the top three credit reporting agencies or if you just checked out just one agency he may have used one of the others.

Make sure when your pulling your own credit report you do directly with one or all of the three top agencies. There are a lot of bogus credit reports that require you to buy a service to get one for free. They are not real.

Anyway look at your credit report. Are there any errors. A lot of late payments? Especially look at rent or mortgage payments. If you have been late several times he may not have wanted to rent to you. Do you have a lot of debt? A lot of inquiries? What is your credit score? All these factors play a roll in passing the credit bar to rent or get loans.

  3. No, if he ran your credit it would be on there.

I think there is a very simple explanation for this. He lied.

He could have found another renter that is paying more. He could have found a friend or someone he knows to rent the place. Or maybe he just didn't like you for some stupid reason.

But for some reason, he is just using your "credit" as an excuse not to rent to you. Forget about it and move on.
