i have 2 new lemon plants growing right now. the first one that came up now has 3 leaves. the other one has 2. the first plant has some holes in one of its leaves. is something eating it? i have bug spray and i was thinking about trying a little. would that be safe for such a small plant? i don't want them to die. they sprouted from seeds and i know they have plenty of growing room in their pot.

  1. There are insecticides out there that will burn the foliage on a plant. I've seen it happen. For instance professional strength Orthene will burn a bougainvillea. Before you spray the plant itself try spraying a perimeter around it. Also I would suggest you try some diatomaceous earth it's non-chemical and completely natural so you wouldn't have to worry in the future that you may be ingesting pesticide residue. If all else fails I would build some cages and use some very light screening material to encase them until they were well established.

  2. I wouldn't spray such young plants.  Did you use clean, pasteurized potting soil?  If you used garden soil, it could be a bug that hides during the day and eats at night.  Without knowing what the "bug" is, it's hard to recommend a safe treatment.  Are you sure you didn't bump and tear the leaf.

  3. if u dont spray it, it will die from infestation(bugs), if u do, you will have to take the risk, and chances are it wont hurt the plant:)

Hope that Helps and Good Luck
