A boy, born in October, named October. Toby as a nick name. Or should we just name him Toby?

Name him Toby October.  That way he can hide his middle name if he's embarrassed.  But I love Toby as a first name!  The two sound really good together.

I teach children.  I come across all sort of unusual names.

I've got one boy called Tray...

I've never heard of that one.  At first it made me say pardon?  Tray was his name - ok.. Unusual, but I got used to it after a while.

I guess think of the childs future and growing up experience.  It could create bullying and ridicule from his classmates?

In my opinion, it's a bit weird to call a child October.

Each to his own though.  Celebrities get away with it.

Gwenyth Paltrow - child 'apple'

Paula Yates - 'heavenly tiger lilly' other child called 'peaches.'

Nicole Kidman - 'Sunday Rose'

If its what you like, then go for it.  I don't think its horrible.  People name their children April, May, June.  I know women named Breezy, Summer, Autumn......  If you like the Toby more than the October part, then just stick with Toby.

I once met a woman named September,,,  never guess what month SHE was born in!

I've known people (male and female) with the middle name August... one was born in August, the other one's parents met in August.  I've heard of January and July for girls, also.  I think Julia would be adorable for a July girl!  

Julio is July in Spanish... guys are named this.  And of course you have April, May, and June.

Oh.. October is cute for a little boy, BTW.

I don't think it's weird, and how clever of you to see "Toby" as a nick name for October!  Never thought of that.  I've seen men with the middle name "August," and "Summer" is a popular girls' name now.  Nicole Kidman named her daughter "Sunday" (I have a cousin with that name and I think it's really pretty.)  So days of the week, seasons and month names appear to be gaining popularity!

So I say Go for it.  Maybe pick a middle name that is more common to balance it... 1 or 2 syllables max.

I know a September and everyone ALWAYS asks her if her birthday is in September.  She worked in a job with me where she dealt with customers all day long and she had to answer that question at least 10 times a day.  It probably wouldn't have been so bad if she were born in September so the conversation would have ended there, but her birthday was in January.  So she had a lot of explaining to do.

Just something to consider, he will get that question a lot if you choose it.  I don't personally dislike the name October, but it will look a little odd on a resume someday.  Just things to consider.

Very cool name. Toby is a good nick name for October. My son is  named Odysseus (greek warrior) and everyone calls him Odie (like Garfield's friend)  for short. He has lots of friends and not one makes fun of his name. Everyone loves to chant his name when he's up to bat during baseball games or when he tackles someone at a football game. Kids don't usually make fun of other kids because they think their name is weird. They make fun of someones name when their parents think it's weird like a lot of the people who already made comments. Kids hear their parents say that they think it's a weird name so they think it's a weird name.

I thought it was a lot weirder until I saw that you would call him Toby. I think I kinda like it. However it would be less weird if he wasn't born in October.
