There's a link to the chip, I don't really believe it would give me anywhere close to 50 horses but anyone know if it could give me maybe 10 or 15 and if it would increase my mpg at all?

Also I drive a 98 mustang gt.

  1. Probably and probably.  The factory chip is a compromise between many things, mostly emissions. And that doesn't always give the best results

The aftermarket chips don't have the same requirements therefore the can give to Peter without having to worry about paying Paul. (They can run a richer acceleration without worrying about polluting the catalytic converter. They can run a leaner cruising mixture without worrying about burning up the O2 sensor. They can disable the 2nd gear lockout without worrying if your generating smog.)  The better question is, does your local/state emissions allow aftermarket chips?

(PS read the asterisk, the 50HP is based on a bigger engine than yours.)

You are partially correct.  They increase HP by running it really rich during acceleration and the increase MPG by running it really lean during cruise.

But running the car lean is a VERY GOOD WAY to destroy the engine from the inside out.  There's a reason why the car factory don't run their engine so rich and lean.

    Good luck...
