  1. Definitely not the Jack Dempseys or Blue Rams. The angels will get stressed by the Tiger Barbs fin nipping as they are peaceful and like to be left alone. Decrease the rassies to 8 and Otos to 2.

    Tetras are tetras.

  2. I'm not sure about all of them on your long list, but tetras are not cichlids. Typically it is better to put tetras all together. Some cichlids get pretty big so it is important to keep an eye on them so that they don't eat the tetras. I would suggest keeping the tetras in a different tank.

  3. Not too sure about the Jack Dempsey's, Blue rams, Otos, I don't know too much about them, but the rest sounds like a very interesting combination. Tetras are not cichlids.

In my 55 gallon I have

    Blood Parrot Cichlids

    Jellybeans

    Tiger Barbs

    Black Widow Tetras

    Albino Cories

    Snail

  4. not too sure about the Jack Dempseys, the males can get aggressive, other then that it seems like a well balanced tank.

ps - tetras are in the characidae family while cichlids are in the cichlidae family :)

*EDIT (Aug 19th)* - Taking out the Jack Dempseys will make that tank set up a gorgeous tank and as said before well balanced.

  5. Avoid the Jack Dempseys - you will end up with only the 2 of them eventually.

They are a medium size and rather agressive cichlid, and will grow to 8-10" and literally eat all the other fish you have chosen for breakfast.

The others you have picked should be OK for that size tank.

Tetras and Chiclids are VERY different fish. The Angels, the Rams and the JDs are cichlids. The Congos and blackskirts are tetras.

You cant generalise them, there is a wide range of sizes and temperments in both types. But mostly Chiclids are big and agressive, tetras are generally small and peacefull, but there are many exceptions to that.
