Question:

Would this hypothetical law be a way to solve the abortion issue?

Keep abortion legal at any time during pregnancy, but also provide that any viable unborn child be treated as a premature birth - removed alive, and given all medical treatment to save it.

The woman gets to control her body.

The unborn child gets to live if it can.

Would this be a workable compromise? Why or why not?

Thanks.

  1. NO.  Who is gonna care for the child?  The mother who didn't want the baby in the first place?  The state, my tax dollars?  Abortions should not be allowed after 24 weeks, when the fetus could potentially survive on its own, unless it is for the mother's health and then at that point she probably wanted the child, so she would care for the baby.

  2. Well, since 98.6% of abortions are performed before week 21, and fetuses are not even potentially viable until after week 22 at the earliest (And very rarely at any point before week 25), this law would be basically meaningless.

  3. No. Pregnancy creates long term changes to a mothers body and the accident of pregnancy should not be regulated against a woman's wishes. Who is going to take care of all these children? Approximately 20  years they will be totally dependent. Will it be the govt.? good luck with that venue.  Will it be the self righteous pro-life groups. Doubtful. Perhaps they will end up on the streets eeking through life like so many other unwanted children throughout the world. Abortion isn't an issue it's a cause.   No law is meaningless, they all impact our society, like a pebble thrown into a pond the impact slowly ripples out into the water sometimes impacting objects in it's path in unexpected ways. Who really thought that when Roe vs. Wade was finished that eventually people would go blowing up clinics and killing doctors who perform this medical procedure.

  4. And who is going to pay for all of this?

  5. I'd consider it as long as part of the law is that each newborn is placed with a pro-life family who immediately becomes totally financially/legally responsible for the child...............I'll give the law about 10 minutes on the books before pro-lifers convert in droves to pro-choice once the life they are so "pro" for becomes THEIR responsibility!

  6. and who takes care of this child ?

*edit*   republicans certainly don't want to be financially hindered by more mouths to feed off the public purse.

if adoption is geared up for these rare circumstances, it could work.

EDIT - Mr Stiggo..  agreed, but tell that to the pro-lifers who make such a great deal about these late term abortions.  they have propaganda movies that suse a sweet pink baby that has to to be 9 months old outside of the womb if it's a day.
