I have a 10 gallon tank (18x12) and i haven't used it in a long time because i had cichlids, alligator gars, and arowanas i needed to care for but since they are in my indoor pond i want to use my begginner fish tank in my room so would...?

-6 neon tetras

-4 snails

-6 platys

-3 upside down catfish

-2 live plants (left side, right side of the tank)

-1 small fish cave (middle of the tank)

-gravel (all over the tank)

OR WOULD YOU RECOMEND

-3 male guppies

-3 female guppies

-4 snails

-same decorations as last option

I know that guppies regenerate alot and so do snails but i have uses for them in my indoor pond so i would just feed them to the cichlid pond but i like my first option the best but guys plz help me out on this one i know i need a heater, good lighting, and a cover but i got that all and the tank is already set up i just need the fish.

  1. The upside down catfish would probably not enjoy a 10 gallon, unfortunately.  You could also consider just getting male guppies.  I have just male guppies together in a 40 with some other fish and they are great!

You could also put in some tank decorations and maybe some cory cats.  The Cory Cats are small and they like the company of each other. They also occupy the bottom areas of the tank mostly and they will help to keep the bottom clean!

Good luck, Happy Fish Keeping! :)

  2. way too many in both options, stick to like 6-8 small fish.

  3. No... trust me buddy, you DONT want the snails, theyll kill your tank. even if you DO have a se for em. as far as the gppies go, the males will kill he females by trying to breed so often. you want 6 guppies? 1 male, 5 female. as for the catfish, it grows to be near 8 inches... too big, so forget it. as for the platys, id cut it in half, so either:

    6 Neons

    NO SNAILS

    3 Platy's

NO CATFISH (might i recommend 3 albino catfish? these bottom feeders only get to be 1.5 inches long. )

    OR

    1 male guppy

    5 feamle guppies

    NO SNAILS

i would suggest the second option, with alott more live plants and no snails, if the guppies are to breed, no other fish should be present and if the fry asre to survive into adults, alott more hiding spaces should be available =]

  4. 10 gallons is a bit small for neon tetras to shoal properly.

if you went for the first option, i would go for only 1 apple snail, not 6, the platys really prefer a bigger tank, as do upside down catfish. with regards to the snail, more than 1 apple snail will breed, 1 ramshorn/pond/trumpet snail will REALLY breed, nerite snails will NOT breed.

not much really likes a 10 gallon tank! it's just a bit too small.

guppies would be OK, but only OK. endlers would be better though.

  5. the first choice would be great!!!!!!!!

if u had a 20 gallon or bigger lol

    a 10 gallon is a little small

    y dont u just get

2-3 neon tetras mabey 1 male or 1 female

2 snails they multiply fast so ya :P

    3 platys

1- 2 upside down cat fish

cut the numbers in half so u dont overwell the figh by crowding them all together in such a small tank with alot of accesories :P

plus if u do my suggestion and u get male and female of both then u can get more but free lol

  6. When snails die, they make your water stink and all other fishes will die in a sudden. I used to have gravels but then removed them because they are very difficult to clean up the dumps underwater. Decors would be a good hiding place for fishes, reduces stress. Guppies can go with platy and neon tetras. Snails and catfish i do not recommend. Catfish i thought it would clean the water so i bought one, and base on daily observation, i realized that its other way around, it makes the water very messy.
