ok umm....genetic disorders are a problem because no proper cure for them but just treatment...would it work if the doctors identified the defected gene and then replaced it with a healthy gene copy?? would this cure the disease? iam just curious

  1. Theoretically it would.  BUT

    Almost all genetic disorders are the result of multiple genes, or more properly alleles.  These may be on one chromosome or spread over many chromosomes.

    All genes require expression to impact the person.  Thus we have "dominant" and "resessive", phenotypical variations and "succeptibility" to various inherited genotypes.  Cellular influences, other alleles inherited along with the target allele, and environmental triggers all determine whether or not a genetic disorder is expressed.  

    These and other reasons mean that there is more to it than you think.  It's not as easy as you describe.
