I'm doing a report on global warming and i was wondering if anyone could give me any information on the potential risks that could be caused by tourism development of hotels and resorts for example, in Antarctica. Any other information on global warming and its affects on tourism are also greatly appreciated! thanks!!!

  1. Global warming is for the most part a hoax dude, there's plenty of information about that including the 4 global weather monitoring agencies who stated global temps dropped 1/2 a degree last year and has plateau'd since 1998.

The major effect being due to ....da.... the sun...which has had less sun spot activity.

But as to the "footprint" such development might have, would be a local phenomenon. There would be local heat generated from inefficient insulation of buildings, the building of roads to support traffic, the tourism of these places and perhaps the development of recreational activites like snowmobiling and such into otherwise undesturbed nature scenes.

  2. Nightwind is partly correct the temp has flattened since 1998, because 1998 was the warmest year on record, as the linked graph shows most of the years after 1998 although cooler are still considerably warmer than any of the years before them going back to ~1860.

  3. Tourism development in general adds to Global warming. It would do it much more in Antarctica because people have to travel a long way to ge there and the actual traveling portion of vacation has lots of carbon emissions.

Aside from all that, it would be horrible from an environmental standpoint to allow tourism in Antarctica. It's an extremely fragile ecosystem and environment. Tourism would would quickly destroy it.

There should not be tourism in Antarctica. Not because of Global warming issues so much, but for the overall degradation of the environment that would occur.
