  1. The Lakers would LOVE this

they would do this in a heart beat.

But I dont see why the Hawks should do this, yeah salaries are the the same, but the player are not.

The Hawks lose a great young defesive player, and a better scorer 2.

  2. h**l NO

The only thing josh smith has over Lamar is blocking and dunking

Plus it would ruin the teams chemistry, because Lamar is a huge part of the triangle offense

  3. Lakers are good with Odom. He just needs to be more consistent.

  4. I'm a Lakers fan and I've loved Lamar Odom since he was on the Heat. I really don't want him to be traded, and if he is traded I'd only be ok with it if it was for 1 of 3 people. Smith, Prince, or Battier. I want a defensive player on the team so Kobe doesn't have to work so hard on both ends of the floor. Otherwise Lamar Odom is a great player to have.

  5. atlanta would sign j smith to an extension and then trade him off to la for lamar, so the salaries will match.  this is usualyl done to satisfy the player greed for money and the teams wish to trade him for another player.

  6. I heard this rumor, but can't see it happening. Atlanta is not obliged to trade Josh Smith, but on the other hand, if Smith has to return to the Hawks for the qualifying offer of $3.1M, he's as good as gone next season. One of the interesting aspects of this is that under the Base Year Compensation (BYC) rules, the Hawks can only claim 50% of the salary they sign Smith to prior to the trade. So for example, they couldn't just sign Josh Smith for $13M, then swap him for Lamar Odom straight up. Lakers would have to accept a relatively bad contract (Speedy Claxton) in exchange to make the salaries match.

Now to answer your question, would I be willing to do an Odom for Smith sign and trade? In order to solidify Lakers frontcourt for the foreseeable future, yes; but it wouldn't be the highway robbery that many on this forum suggest. Smith isn't the rebounder, ballhandler, passer that Odom is, and in the triangle offense, those are desirable skills. Again, I think both Smith and Odom will start the season with their respect teams.
