  1. Don't stop writing! Practicing writing gives you good skills and strategies.

If you have heard of Mary Downing Hahn she told many stories when she was a child and wrote them down, then twenty years later she found them and they got published!

When a really good idea comes along for you and gets published, you will be glad that you never stopped writing.

    Besides, writing is fun!

  2. Okay.  First of all, don't stop writing. Get down all the ideas that pop into your precious head and write the story like a devil, not minding the errors in plausibility, grammatical structure, etc. that would normally hold you back.

This is your S****y first draft.

Then, you get someone else to read and annotate this S****y first draft, telling you only the MAJOR points in need of improvement.  You fix these, follow peoples' constructive criticism, and rearrange the plot, then rewrite your new-and-improved, carved story around it.

Make sure you ask yourself this question like a madman:

"Did I EARN this?" Did you earn that line, that character's death, etc.?

Now that you've completed your second, not-as-S****y draft, get someone to annotate it again.

You will most likely have a total of three drafts, but since it's a series, you may have more.  You will know you're done when you're taking commas out and putting them back in the same spot over and over again.

    Trust me.

  3. Every story you write is invaluable and essential practice, if you want to be a writer of any kind later in life. It may be futile to strive towards publishing at this stage, but to be a great writer can take years of practice, so don't waste a moment. Even if it's something you only do in your spare time, I urge you to carry on.

    Good luck x

  4. what would have happened if HE thought it was futile?  never give up!

  5. I would say, you need to read a lot and understand what is the state of the art by understanding the prior art - so that you don't end up writing some trend or quality which has been explored a long back. Once you understand that, shoot ahead.

For reading, while you shall have to buy the newer books, the older ones are available in some internet resources for free reading - so read them right online. One good resource would be:

  6.      This is just the age you should start writing.  In fact, no age is too early.  As for being a writing genius, I hate to disillusion you, but reading a good book on English grammar would be your wisest course.  But keep writing, and read lots of books as well.  You can never read too many.

    Good luck

  7. Writing at any age is a great thing.  And don't stop just because you think it might be futile.  Age is not a true gauge of talent.

  8. Absolutely not! If there's one thing this world needs it's more writers. I can understand your problem at hand, I'm 17 and someday hope to become a paleontologist, I crave any sort of science, but I like to write as well. The only thing you have to give up is this choice, you can have both writing as well as math and physics. Don't stop writing, it is your creative outlet as well as a potential beginning for a fulfilling career. It's rare to see people who have a talent for writing, it's a gift you have, don't give up on it. Try reading a few books and studying their style, then take a look at your own and compare, this way you can read and improve your writing at the same time. And as for the math and physics, you can learn about those as well, no one says you have to choose, here is an opportunity to have your cake and eat it to.

So please, don't stop writing, even at your age the world needs a new author.

  9. I'm your age and i plan on majoring in creative writing when i get to college. Don't stop because you think it's futile. I'm not sure what gave you that idea. Kids our age publish books all the time. 'Truancy' by Isamu Fukui was written by a seventeen year old living in New York.

Don't stop because you think you can't do something. If it's something you enjoy, go for it!
