  1. It depends on the age of your children, how many you have, and the maturity level of the 12 year old.  I have a 14 year old sister and she is not responsible enough to watch my baby.  I do know very mature 12 year olds who are very responisble and can be trusted with your children.  It seem that see is responsible because she has experience but you be the judge of that situation.

  2. no

  3. Oh my god! no way. 12 is still a child.

  4. I have to agree with Mandarin.

As the Mother of a very mature and capable 12 year old daughter, we are often asked if she babysits and I just cringe.

She does have a lot of experience, being older than 4 of her siblings, 2 of whom are only 3 years old and 8 months.

I always tell the parents that ask that she enjoys being a "Mother's helper" and coming over to play with children or do some jobs around the house while the Mom is home.

I trust my daughter very, very much, but I would not do that to her!  That is too much responsibility at that age.

    Mom of 6

  5. No, I as an adult would not put that kind of responsibility on a 12 year old CHILD.  Not that I wouldn't trust the child, I just don't think it's fair to that 12 year old.

  6. Yea.. If you feel more comfortable have her come over for an hour while you are there and let her watch the kids while you are doing laundry, project etc..

if you feel confident then let her watch them while you are out..

  7. Nope

  8. heck no. I just startted allowing my twins to stay home by themself for a couple hours at a time and they are 13. I don't even leave my younger two with them and they are responsible, so I can't see myself leaving them with a 12 year old either.

  9. Well it depends on the number of kids and their ages. But if I knew the babysitter very well then possibly.

  10. yeah. id leave em with an experienced 11 year old to (if i was at the house) nad if i had kids! lol

  11. yes i would if i know the kid

  12. MY friend used to do this kind of baby sitting when she was that age. She would watch the kids while the other or father was still there, but he or she would be busy, doing laundry, cooking dinner, working. I can see a parent doing that. If anything goes wrong, you're there, but you have someone looking after your child's most basic needs, so that you can get your work done. If I were leaving the house, I'd want an older babysitter.

  13. I was a young babysitter. I think if you know the babysitter well enough,  I say why not? Dont leave your kid with just ANYBODY. But Im sure you know that. Have the babysitter over for dinner one day so you can get to know them a bit. Its a small cost to just SEE that they can at least get along with your kids.

  14. No. 13 or 14 yes, 12, no.

  15. No, and if you are 12 doesn't that automatically make you inexperienced???

  16. If my kids were older (4+ or so) then yes, probably not if it was my infant, unless I really knew the babysitter and her/his family.

  17. a 12 year old is still a child.no matter how mature they are.they would not the experience to deal with difficult situtations.nor should they have.so no.i would never put my child in that situation.or the 12 year old.

  18. NO WAY how experienced can they be at 12, ive got 2 children and i wouldnt leave them with somebody under the age of 18, she cant know that much shes too young!!!

  19. yes, but I'd make sure she/he had taken the baby sitter's course.

  20. if tis a family member yes, other wise no.

  21. 12 is kind of young. Get in touch with the parents of some of the kids she babysat just to make sure everything was fine when they got back home.

  22. When my daughter was six months, I hired a 12, to help out, when I got sick

Well, I had three others family on the block with children within a year of my child

    They watch her

With in  a year, she had the whole block, and I could never get her.  Also, Her mom or dad stayed home until she was 15.

So it something went wrong, she had a parent to help

That what a lot of a parents like

So yes, the right 12 year old

  23. Yes, it is fine. I used to babysit when I was only 11.

  24. absolutely not. even with experience they are still a child their self! your children would look at the babysitter as a friend and not their superior.

  25. Children should not be babysitting  children.................I don't think anyone should baby sit unless they are over 18.....and take a course in child safety...............children are to precious to gamble with

  26. I think it would depend of the maturity of the 12 year old..and the age of my child/children.  I know that my husband won't let anyone babysit our daughter who is under 15.  I however think that a responsible 12 year old can do a fine job entertaining and watching my 8 year old.  However..I do know some 8 year olds that a 12 year old might not be able to handle.

  27. yes.

  28. Ive babysat when i was 11

  29. I believe I started baby-sitting when I was 11.

  30. In my opinion a 12 year old still needs supervision.

  31. I see you have 21 answers already, I have not read them so if I say something someone has said ( sorry ).

But personally NO WAY! it's hard enough to leave my son w/ anyone let alone a 12 year old who has NO experience. Would be different if she knew what she was doing or had references.

Where did you find her anyway? if it's a family member or someone you would trust-but obviously you don't or you would not be asking.

So remember that-you wouldn't ask if you trusted her.

    go w/ your gut.
