Today I colored my hair a medium brown thats going to fade back to my natural color in about a month. I think its a bit too dark, so would washing it with shampoo made for blond hair help it fade faster? Are there any risks to doing this?

  1. No using shampoo made for blond hair will not help 'lighten' your hair. Those types of shampoos are made specially to help prevent brassiness and in some types preventing your hair going 'green'.

There are 2 things that can be done to lighten your hair, one is go to a hairdresser to get your hair -de-colored, this will damage your hair though as this process is quite harsh on the hair, it will also leave it a yucky looking color, as this process is more designed for removing alot of built-up colour in the hair before lightning. After this process you will need to color your hair again, which equals more damage.

The second thing that you can do, is just let it naturally fade. Using normal shampoos and not color-treated shampoos will help "strip" it more, as color-treated shampoos help "lock" in the color to prevent it from fading so fast.

    Hope this helps

  2. I'll second F. Blonde shampoo won't do any good, it's only used to offset brassy tones, whereas redhead shampoos contain a red pigment to help maintain the intended colour.

Try a hot oil hair mask (like VO5) and leave it on for at least twice as long. Wrap up in plastic and towel and let it simmer :) Just like the other entry.. oil may help.

If not, head back to the shops and get a high-street product like ColourOops, it'll strip the unwanted colour. I have never used it so cannot say anything about the result.

However, if you have a salon supplier near you, get Goldwell Color System remover and that will remove the dark colour without damaging your hair further.. at least if your dark tint is a recent one. The fresher the colour the more it will lift. The Goldwell product is gentle and won't stress your hair any more than it has suffered so far.

And afterwards, condition, condition and condition some more. Find a good reconstuctor/conditioner. Spend money on a salon product rather than a supermarket kind. It will be better quality and it will last longer...

  3. Just wash it with normal shampoo.   Washing it with the "color" shampoo will not make a difference.  It is going to fade either way.

  4. I had the same problem once with coloring my hair too dark, even though a few people said it looked fine. (Yes, some guys color their hair.)

I colored up the toll-free number of the company that made the hair dye. They said that rubbing some olive oil into wet hair helps to remove the hair color you used. The oil sort of pulls some the coloring out. That happened years ago, so I don't remember how long you leave the olive oil in. My guess is15-30 minutes.

If you don't want to do the oil thing, just use regular shampoo often. If you're in a rush, just rinsing your hair with water will help a little.

In the meantime, just enjoy your new color. You might find in a week, it is not as bad as you first thought !!

  5. i would assume so, because when my sister was younger she wanted a drastic cut (shes blonde) and color, so she used my moms red hair shampoo and it turned her hair pink.

    good luck! :D
