  1. yes, it would look good, but as previous answer said, keep the walls simple. you can still do a few decorations here and there, but keep it simple.

also, if you paint the bottom half of a room dark, it grounds the room, but in a small room will make it feel smaller. so make sure to either keep the wainscoting white and paint the top a very light color, or paint wainscoting a light shade and keep the top white.

  2. It depends on whether how much wall space your furniture takes up.If you are not going to see that much of it then don't bother with it. You could just paint the bottom half of the wall and put a chair rail molding up.

  3. it really depends.

I think the beautiful part of wainscoting is the fact it looks great on open walls.

So ask yourself this question? is the room going to be full with stuff, or not. If you can't see the walls, regardless how much it feels cramped/smaller. you'll never see the detail of the wall, and wainscotting is really wasted in that sort of space.

  4. I think it would look great, as long as everything else was simple and uncluttered.

  5. If it was white, & on the wall, halfway up, it'd be fine, as long as the upper half of the wall was painted a very light color.
