We want to relocate and we are looking at Maine. We have 5 kids we are from Utah we drive a minivan (no not mormon) and we want a nice country living for our kids. Life is so hectic and costly here. I want a slower pace, a country house on a lake or pond with lots of trees & decent work. I am in Hospitality Management & my husband is a computer geek with no degree & years of experience as a forklift foreman. HELP!!!

  1. My husbands family lives in Maine... yes it is beautiful... but it is EXPENSIVE!!!! Move to the midwest... like Missouri or Iowa.. its so much cheaper to live there.. and there is beautiful country living there.. especially like in southern MO... compare housing prices and salaries before you make the big move. Also you have to remember it gets SOOOOOOOOOO cold in ME... so you are also going to spend more on heating.

  2. I lived in Vermont and my ex girlfriend was from Maine.  There wasnt much of a difference between those states except Vermont ended up being much more expensive.

The pros to living in Maine is that it's very beautiful and relaxed.  But keep in mind some very crucial matters.

    1. The economy in Maine isn't all that great.  Figures, since there arent a lot of people living there.

    2. Getting a job is going to be really tough unless you're in a big city in Maine and that would pretty much mean the capital.

    3. The winters there are cold.  I figure Utah is cold but I was told that New England winters are WET & COLD as opposed to DRY and COLD.

Anyway slower pace usually means less money so your best bet is to do the job market research.   As long as you have a decent job Maine is a great place.  But like I said, it's not a booming place.

  3. Ok first of all NO ONE fits in Maine except those people from Maine. Familiar with Frost's poems about New Englanders? Or maybe the warm hospitality of the people in King novels? Yeah, it's like that. They don't take nicely to outsiders, is all I'm saying, no matter how nice you are. It is absolutely beautiful there and I know two families who have moved there and are quite happy but there is a big adjustment from places where people are fairly friendly to a place where the personalities match the warmth of the winters there. They could use you though. They are direly in need of some Hospitality management.

  4. Look at the economics of the region. Maine looks like a really nice place to be. I would check out the hours of sunshine, average rainfall though. Being on the east coast the winters are probably cloudy and rainy.
