....I know its a silly question, I'm just making a point that wearing a helmet does nothing for the majority of accidents.

  1. Helmets are just to keep your noggin from direct concussion and severe blows to the head.  They don't help with any other injuries.

Neck, arms, legs and shoulders you get what you get.

  2. I think yes althought I'm not sure, it depends on the way you dis-located it

  3. I don't think so. But you won't die because a dislocation. Otherwise you can die if you fall and you hit your head with stones. So wear your helmet!

  4. NO!!!! your helmet only protects your head, not you shoulder! A helmet doesn't even protect your neck! I was wearing a helmet when i injured my shoulder.

  5. While many people answered your rhetorical question literally, I'm just going to point out that we wear helmets so that when we injure other parts of our body...like our shoulders...we can go on to complain about it.  But when we injure our head, we don't sustain serious brain damage and require assistance for the rest of our days.  A shoulder will heal (may never be back to original) but serious head trauma can't be reversed.  If you're upset w/ the injuries and feel there isn't enough protective armor in skiing, go out and get some motocross armor or something.

  6. NO! r****d. Unless you wear a helmet on your shoulder.... it wouldnt help at all.

  7. nope you would also need a neck brace and shoulder pads for that

  8. You know better than this Iggy.   What prevented my shoulder from dislocating was seeing the skier who collided into me at the last moment and turning to avoid the collision.  We both avoided a head injury by being helmeted...but she came away with a broken rib, me with whiplash.

The only thing that will prevent all ski injuries would be a plastic bubble...you can be the bubble boy of the mountain...or just give up alpine winter sports.

  9. Probably not.  I separated my shoulder a few season ago and was wearing a helmet.  A helmet is designed to protect your noggin upon impact with the ground, a tree, rail or any other object, and I don't ride a day without mine.

Sorry to hear about your shoulder...wishing you a speedy recovery!
