  1. Why would you even ask? How can a person be on the ship cruising around the various points of port and still be around their family? Come on.

  2. Not if they took a lot of cruises.

  3. yup

  4. Hi I worked on the ships for 10 years. My contracts were 6 or 8 months.  My family could come on at a very good discounted rate, which they loved, of course!!!!!  You can call your family from your cabin by buying a ships phonecard, you get something like 3 hrs for 20$....and that was from the Carribean to the Uk, so pretty cool. Although it was lots and loys of fun to work, it got harder and harder to say goodbye to my family as you get older you miss them more and more, well i did anyway.....but at the same time it makes you a stronger person and more independant.  Good Luck

  5. Not unless you took them with you :)

  6. Yes

  7. Yes, most cruise line jobs require you to sign a contract for a 8 to 9 month tour of duty and you work 7 days a week, plus long hours depending upon your job.  After your tour you get a couple months off and then come back for a second long tour (if you want to keep working for them).

  8. Yes!  We just got back from a cruise and one of our waiters told us that his wife gave birth to their first child nearly a year ago and he still hasn't seen that child yet!  Another one of the cruise ship personnel told me that his schedule was six months at sea and one month off.

  9. yes you would have to be away from your family a lot but you do get time off. I have looked into it I thought about doing it awhile back the amount of time depends on your contract some are 6 months others 9 months others are a year

  10. Sometimes you need to get away from the family in order to grow...

Cruise ships can be fun too.

  11. I knew a gal who worked on a ship and yest she was away from family for long periods 6 months or more at a time. It's a wonderful way to travel but if you feel the need to be close to family than it's not the job for you.

  12. Depending on what cruise line but most have contracts from 6-10 months.

  13. Obviously you can tell by the other answers that you will be gone from your family for up to 9 months depending on the company you work for and your position.  Family can come and visit if needed and you can talk to them via phone and email.  You will also create your own family on board and make life long friends.  The time also goes faster than you think.  If being around family for major holidays is a must, you may also be able to start your contract at a time that will allow you to be completed by then.

  14. At least eight to ten months out of a year you will be expected to be away from your family.

  15. yeah you work 6 months at a time.

  16. oh no...they are so nice they fly your family to the ship whenever you want!

  17. No, I'm sure that they would helicopter you back home every night and then come to pick you up each morning so that you could sleep in mommy and daddy's house. DUH!!

  18. Most likely, depends on the cruises, their length, etc.  But most travel jobs do require you to be away.
