  1. Ships and trains would be the norm.

    The old ways.

  2. The world would feel like a much "bigger" place with airplanes.

It would take a lot longer to get from one place to another.

Many parts of the world would probably still have remained unexplored.

Human populations would be more densely packed and people would feel more isolated in their smaller communities.

We wouldn't have technologies which came out of the discovery of flight - no space program, no computers, no internet, we probably wouldn't have gotten into plastics or high-tech lightweight metals like aluminum.

The total population of the world would probably be much smaller because we could not transport things like food & resources as quickly without planes.

Our whole view of the planet would probably be different ... (we wouldn't have satellites to monitor weather, no satellite tv's or phones, no views of the planet from orbit)

  3. for me itd be the same, ive never been on one, neither had my family or friends. actually, food and other goods are probably flown in form other countries, so maybe that makes things cost  less, if we didnt have airplanes, it could take months for stuff to get to you, which would be more time people spend on it which means more money. also, if u have outta state family, and there is an emergency- u wouldnt be able to gett there. say good bye to far away vactions honey, cuz itll take you a fewmonths to get across the ocean. 9/11 wouldnt have happened either. and worst of all... the tv show lost may not have ever happened. =(

    hope i helped. =D

  4. famous singers and such would take more time getting to one place and then another

if there werent any planes then people could prove that ufos and aliens are real ;]

  5. it would be like mines, since i've never flown.

  6. just look at houw things were before there were commercial airlines. more people took trains and ****.

  7. Well, first think about how much convenience airplanes give us. We don't need to drive everywhere, and boats aren't needed as much for transportation across the oceans.

  8. Nooooooo!!! That would be crazy! However, there are two things that can be compared here - one the advantages and disadvantages of having them. For example, in this crazy world today that we are living, people barely have time to see their families because of work or other activities that are also part of their life; they barely have time for anything. So planes would be beneficial for people who use planes for work, all those businessmen, and also people who go to visit their families for breaks. Planes also help the economy, for example, tourism. So many people take the plane because it's faster to go let say for a week to Hawaii, instead of spending days with the cruise to get there.

Disadvantages...The only one that I can think of is how many people die each year in plane crush. Planes do unite families but sometimes split them apart as well.

  9. Horrible.

  10. A lot slower. People would take a lot longer to get from place to place. More cars on long distance trips, more boats, trains, all modes of transportation would have more people on them.

  11. Hmmm.....life would be a lot different. We'd have to walk or drive to places far away. And,  we wouldn't have first-class flyers. Less pollution too.

  12. My life would have no point.  I realy wish we had to write about planes because I would want to go to school everyday and everyone except me would fail.  I wouldn't even have to study for the test/quiz/essay/anything else.

  13. i think there would be more high speed trains, express highways with computer controlled cars and busses (you couldn't trust humans to drive vehicles that fast!)

there would be a lot more passenger an cargo ships, maybe blimps and hellicopters, too.

however, without airplanes, there would probably not be a space program either. no space program means no satelites=no cable tv as we know it, no gps, no wireless, etc.

    no intercontinental ballistic missles, maybe.

war would certainly be different, no 911 planes, no bombing in viet nam war, no bombing of london or germany in ww2.

  14. actually there would be MORE pollution. yes MORE!

airplanes produce 2% of all pollution but ships actually produce 4% of all pollution. since there are no planes to get across oceans, we will take ships, so increase that 4% to maybe 16% or more.

also, we'll be using our cars more. unless there are 3 or more people in the car, the airplane STILL pollutes less.

add even more pollution from added use of trains.

however, maybe by now, we have an underground world metro system who knows?

but without any new developments to counter the loss of aviation, increased pollution is still the most noticeable and most detrimental effect.

  15. Unless i am sadly mistaken my dear,i do believe life would still have it,s ups & downs.

  16. Air travel is the only practical way of long distance travel we have. There may be less pollution without them but I really wish people wouldn't get so worked up about 'air pollution' and 'global warming' because the theory that humans are the main cause is just idiotic and all forms of transport including aeroplanes are becoming increasingly more efficient.

We are used to air travel now and it has bought the world closer together. It would seem very strange without it in this day and age.

  17. less pullition

  18. My life would become as good as nothing if i cant fly. =[

    A dream, a passion, a reality.

  19. Really boring

  20. Not only will we be stuck for places to go on holidays, It will also mean big changes in the economic, in what way i'm not sure, but it will mean we can't get goods from aborad etc. And have to rely on boats etc. which will take longer and if is food it might not be as fresh. also it will effet migration attern, so less semi-perminate external migration. but environmentally it might be better because there's less pollution.

  21. It would mean that you'd have to drive everywhere and not fly.

  22. There would be more, not less, air pollution.

  23. The World Trade Centers would still be standing tall.........And Hiroshima and Nagasaki would have waaaaaaaay more people living around those parts.

  24. i would say it has a lot to do with each individual.  as i am weird...  LOL  and decided after the age of like 15 - i would NOT get on an airplane...  LOL  it does not affect my life in a negative manner.  i am still able to go anywhere i would like - be it by car, boat...  etc.  :)

  25. it would take longer to get across the ocean

  26. Trains, cars, bikes, boats and feet.

  27. There would be a lot more ships and trains. The trains would handle in country traffic and ships the international traffic. life would be a lot slower and perhaps that would be a good thing. Life is way tooooo fast and no one gets to enjoy anything or anyone we are way too busy trying to get from A to B to stop and smell the roses.

  28. To the individuals that were talking about there be less pollution, think about this for a second.  A plane uses more fuel, its true, but it carries 150+ people.  If you break down the numbers airplanes are more efficient than cars.  Airplanes on average do  50 MPG per passenger.

Now if airplanes did not exist, then each of those individuals would be driving cars that get less than 50 MPG (unless you count a Hybrid) and there would be MORE pollution, not less.

"A jet spews out 10 times more gas emissions in one trip that an SUV does in one year!"  Where in the world did you get your information?  I got mine here http://www.airlines.org/economics/energy...

Oh and one more thing... to those that are saying that the twin towers would still be standing, actually they would never have been built.  The metals used in the construction of the buildings were derived from metals used in aircraft construction... lightweight and strong...

  29. 19th century.

travelling by ships from continent to continent.

  30. gralsolo preach on my brother.

Airplanes are the safest and commercially the best gas savers "car pooling" you can ever get. Gas mileage per customer is Incredible and getting better with aviation improvements.

In Alaska it is a necessary part of life. It opens up the wilderness. In cities big and small it saves lives, Life flight.

I can only think of the pros as far as having airplanes.

Views appose to what gralsolo and I think are valid, it's true planes do pollute, so do scooters, cars, trains, busses, lights, people, EVEN COWS, the laptop you are using to read/write this they all pollute.

The stand point that this is to be viewed on is Cost / Benefit. Over all the benefit WAY out weighs the cost in Aviation.

What would the world be like?

A little quieter (FAA does Regulate this FAR 150), but I think things would be very different.

This is another example of how the general public views Aviation as a whole. You have to think about the greater good for humanity before you consider a small minded answer.

  31. longer trips.
