You wouldn't recognise it. I worked in town in the Eighties, till the Nineties, but nobody goes there any more. It's rotten with crime. Everybody sticks to the suburbs. Sandton is the new CBD, and it's ridiculously busy, because the once little village streets and town planning can't cope with a city double the size of the old Jo'burg.

All of Hillbrow, Yeoville, Berea is a no-go area. It's like Soweto now. Rockey Street? Forget it. You'll be mugged or knifed before you get out of your car.

Lived and worked there up to 1981.

Travelled through Hillbrow and Berea a while back and was sad to see the change.

Sometimes it is better not to revisit the past. The memories of the good times and a clean city will never fade.

You will cry bitter tears if you saw Johannesburg CBD today. It is dirty; many empty buildings with broken windows. I drove through and had to blink to make sure I am seeing what I see. I could not believe that in such a short period of time, it has turned into an unrecognisable slum.

Traffic during peak times- 2-3 hours :)
