Would you able to get away with using disc brake hubs on a non disc specific 700c rim?

  1. Yes.  If you look at many of the Disc ready bikes, they still have thick rims to accommodate brake block, but have holes for mounting a disc already fashioned into the hub.

    In short, the only difference to your riding is going to be the extra few grams of weight on your wheel rims.

  2. Yes, but you will need to buy a new hub.  

  3. The rim has nothing to do with using disc brakes, but you will need a disc specific hub.

    That being said, if you go to competition quality 700C road rims there is the possibility they might fail using discs because of the spokes pulling through the thin wall of the rim.
