  1. yes

  2. people I have found are so concerned about what society thinks about them that they try to portray and acceptable image by being trendy or fashionable. They believe the external appearance is what is important due to the first impression being the lasting impression. On one hand this is true of a lot of people whom are wholy impressed by appearances but I personaly believe that ,Empathy and compasion are virtues that I would rather be concerned with as without them I don,t think anyone is an effective person.(either for themselves or for others.)To inspire others to be the best person they can be would be a wonderful gift and I realise only a handful of people have acomplished this through history. These people I consider as effective, albeit on the other hand you also have the everyday person who is not aknowleged by history doing great charitiable acts, therfore being effective..

  3. If your dressed like a bum nobodys gonna wanna listen to what you have to say therefore you will not be effective

  4. yes, which is quite sad.  there is more to looking fashionable

  5. Agreed.   I think focus should be placed on other things...  while these are not terrible characteristics to hold, a little less focus wouldn't hurt.

  6. For a large majority, yes.  However, our society had a hand in fostering such superficial attitudes.  Fashion models are paid tons of money and are glamourized to celebrity status.  The entertainment industry is intertwined with the fashion industry, and represent the wealthiest classes.  QWe continue to pay into that through our demand for entertainment, and reading their gossip rags.  Such notoriety and fame make many people want to emulate that.  It is indeed a sad state!

  7. Yes! i think so, I know people who judge others only by what they wear, and really the person who is being judged by people who call them selves 'popular', are really nice people. But not all the time, of course...So yeah people are more concerned about fashion than they are of peoples personalities...

  8. The amount of money the average young consumer spends on keeping up with the latest trends in fashion and accessories, is in the billions of dollars. Yet, everyone seems unhappy. It's a perpetual treadmill that some people never get off of. As for being effective, I'm not quite sure what you mean by that. People need more training in interpersonal skills, more empathy, and manners. I don't think this current trend of being sarcastic, hostile towards other people's religious beliefs etc. solves anything. People feel frightened and intimidated by the overt verbal cruelty that is all too common these days.
