  1. As Rosbif mentioned, the Roger Williamson one was horrific, all the marshalls stood by and watched him succomb to the flames. Only another driver, David Purley attempted to save him. He was awarded the George medal for his in vein effort.

  2. The worst ones for me are Gilles Villeneuve and Jean Behra. They were both thrown from their cars, and neither died instantly, apparently. The Villeneuve accident is the one which changed how I saw F1, like the Senna one affected many of the people who post in here.

The first time you watch Villeneuve's accident, you don't actually realise it's his body flying through the shot at the bottom of the screen. The worst thing about it was that he was still alive for several minutes afterwards with his body smashed. The Jean Behra accident isn't on film, but there is a horrible photo of it. It happened on the banking at the Avus circuit, and Behra's body came over the top of the banking and landed in the paddock behind - a drop over over 30m. A German photographer took a picture just as he flew over the top, so you see him spreadeagled against the skyline.

For people who weren't killed by the crash, then Roger Williamson burning to death was the worst. Look THAT up on youtube if you want to ruin your morning. He had one of the shortest F1 careers on record in terms of laps driven, his first race being ended by a first lap accident, his second by his fatal 7th-lap crash.

The Tom Pryce accident was horrible, in that it was so stupid. It was only by extreme good luck that his car didn't cause another huge accident at the end of the straight too, it only narrowly missed a couple of other cars before it hit the barriers at full speed. Patrick Depailler, Elio De Angelis and Francois Cevert were all violent high-speed accidents too.

  3. Pryce's accident was simply orrible. the first time that i saw his accident i cried a lot. i was so scared... nobody deserves a death like Tom's and Van Vuren's death...

  4. Worst accident I've ever seen was a sidecar accident, I think in Australia quite a few years ago.

A sidecar crashed at speed on the barriers throwing it's passengers off, possibly already killed or dying.

Then another one came through the corner at the same speed hitting one of them that was lying on the tarmac square on.

They showed that cr*p on the news.

Tom Pryce's accident wasn't much better either, but the original footage is blurry enough to not see too many details.

Have you seen that NASCAR crash where the car after the accident comes to rest sideways on the track with the driver's door taken off.

    He just sits there exposed.

Then another car comes and hits him cutting the car almost in half.

It hit him just half a meter or so in front of the driver who was just sitting there watching.

That was incredibly scary to watch, I can't imagine being in his place.

  5. Yes, i agree.  As far as accidents where the racing drivers are involved, it was the worst one, he was decapitated and they found bits of the other guy all over the place.

Here's another bad crash in Japan, the guy was burning in his car for something like 90 seconds before the marshalls got to him and part of his visor had melted onto his face.
