This statement is especially true when applied to healthcare. "You think medical care is expensive now, wait until it's free". P.J. O'Rourke

  1. I think most people (clearly not all) are intelligent enough to recognize the truth in that statement. The sad fact is that we have a big lack of morals in our country, so people are OK with the fact that somebody else is paying for their free lunch. Far too many only think stealing is wrong when it happens to them, but are all for it if it happens to the "rich".

  2. I totally agree with that question.

Yesterday, I volunteered with a large charitable organization that provided meals to Gustav evacuees.  I had to keep track of how many snacks, pieces of fruit, drinks, etc. were handed out.

I didn't ask why but my guess is that they consider those charitable donations and get tax deducations for all that "free" food.  But... like I said... that's my guess.

Honestly, I would have felt better just giving out the food... not having to keep a running tally as to what was being given away.

Anyways, my point is one person's tax deduction will eventually turn into another's tax increase.  The money has to come from somewhere.

  3. I have never had a free lunch....but I have paid so others could have one or two.

  4. Absolutely 100% right on.

  5. A whole lot of wisdom in that

  6. I very much believe in it.  In the case of healthcare we all know that it costs something, those doctors have to be paid and the machines they use have to be paid for.  Someone has to pay something.  If you are on Medicaid then the tax payers pay for your medical care, its not just something that the state gives out for free.  If you have universal healthcare then taxes that people pay is funding it.  So Obama's statement about not raising taxes and plans for everyone to have medical care is a bunch of BS because not everyone can have medical care unless taxes are raised to pay for it.
