Would you agree with this statement about Kimbo and Elite XC?

the question is, does Elite XC want him to be defeated? I have to think last night really sort of f'd up XC's plans to put Slice against a top heavyweight in a few years for a mega payday for everyone involved. As far as I and most other people are concerned, he lost that fight to a marginal heavyweight who has a pretty poor record. So, do they take a chance on putting another decent MMA guy against him when he has a good chance of losing next time? Do they match him with another brawler like Tank or Butterbean (which I wouldn't mind seeing) and let them stand there and brawl? do they start telling these oppenents something to the effect of "hey, we will pay you x amount to take this fight and if you win it standing up (brawling) we'll give you a $100k bonus"

Does XC's success hinge on Kimbo winning , and they need him to stay undefeated just b/c of his huge Internet following? What do you predict in Kimbo's future? he appears to have years of training to be elite , agree??

  1. It's obvious that EliteXC wants kimbo to continue to draw mainstream audiences, and according to initial ratings from last night he did just that.  While EliteXC does have some other options, Kimbo is their number 1 fighter(as far as making money) but they have Gina Carano and the CBS should help them have a more capable MMA stable.  Kimbo may have Gannon(the guy who beat him on the internet) or Roy Nelson(IFL Heavyweight champ) and after the problems he had at the post conference they could arrange a match between himself and Grim.

  2. They will keep hand picking Kimbos fights he is there poster boy but it just goes to show you how green he is Thompson is a tin can and was destroying Kimbo so the 1 st chance they had to stop it they did to keep him undefeated the whole EXC seems silly rap singers, cheerleaders, guys dancing in the ring seemed more like WWE than MMA and on another note Thompson is pretty much a tin can with a glass jaw with no ground skills himself and he embarrassed Kimbo

  3. everyone knows they wont let kimbo get beaten look he fights bums then last nigth fought class jaw thompson and cant knock him out i still think early stoppage kimbo is freak show period gary shaw knows elite XC is a mionor league period kimbo gets destroyed  with any legit MMa fighter

  4. They need to put kimbo against big silva, the everyone would see kimbo get destroyed. i think he is to old to become one of the best. he is just quick cash for cbs and elite xc, there just using him as a marketing tool.

  5. It won't last.

Kimbo lost that fight in the 2nd round.  And they kept it going because they didn't want him to lose.  Kimbo didn't intelligently defend himself for almost a minute and a half.  In the UFC it would have been stopped immediately.

  6. I think Kimbo's next couple fights will be against some more tune up guys. It would be great if the fights would last longer standing up, but opponents are not stupid. I think it would be tempting for XC to give a nice bonus to a guy if he beats Kimbo standing up. Kimbo needs to stay undefeated because he is Elite XC. Kimbo's stand up game is so good it's not funny. He showed a little bit of ground game, but has a way to go. I think if Kimbo works on his ground game he will be ready to fight a contender in 2 years. The only thing is Kimbo is 34 and he is not getting any younger. These are my predictions of who Kimbo is going to fight next.

    Kimbo Slice vs. Jon Murphy

    Kimbo Slice vs. Mike Tyson

    Kimbo Slice vs. Ricco Rodriguez

    Kimbo Slice vs. Antonio Silva

  7. Slice is the biggest asset that Elite XC has, and they will not want him to lose a fight. His value as an asset diminished a great deal last night, and the novelty and hype was shown to be all talk and no talent. Elite XC has been haemorrhaging money over the past year, and there is no way that they will risk their two biggest assets, and the face ( Kimbo Slice ), and the T&A ( Gina Carano )  of their company losing. Once Slice loses, the company will be out of business.

Regardless of Slice's future performances, Elite XC will not exist in 2010. Their one and only asset was shown to be over-hyped and over-rated.

  8. Elite Xc is going down and this stunt to put it on CBS is a last ditch effort to gain some fans from people who are not avid MMA enthusiasts. First of all Kimbo  Slice isn't fighting anyone with real training like the UFC or WEC fighters. He showed he has trouble in later rounds and has not the training to sustain him in a long career as a MMA fighter.

  9. h**l No Elite XC doesn't want him to be defeated.  But thats smart, I would love to see Kimbo destroy some guys fed to him.  The show was slightly disappointing because of the early stoppages, but overall was alright.  Stop hating on Elite, they are great on creating guys you want to watch.  Besides lawler, jake shields, nick diaz, and a few others would be tops in even the UFC.  Shields has beaten number 1 contender Jon Fitch and definitely puts on a better show.  Elite is co-promoting with Dream and Strikeforce, if they can get a Cung Le fight or that crazy Japanese anouncer the show would be a huge success!

  10. Give Kimbo a break. He fought really well given the circumstances. He had 3 mma fights, James Thompson had 20 mma fights. James Thompson was taller with the reach and weight advantage. James Thompson KO former UFC heavyweight champion Don Frye. The referee stopped the fight, Kimbo didn't stop the fight, he was winning the third round.
