Next summer I am going to visit my cousins in California by myself. I'll be 16. It's a two and a half hour flight and I have to change planes once. My cousin will fly back with me and he's like 38 but that's not a problem. Do think it would be OK to fly down by myself? Thanks. =]

  1. Of course...you can handle that just fine.  If you need help when you cnage planes, there are plenty of staff in the airport to help you.  Do be super careful with your carry-on bag...keep the strap wrapped around your wrist at all  times...sitting, standing, whatever.  Have fun on your trip.

  2. Oh yeah!!  Do your parents have a problem because you have to change planes???  The only thing you have to be able to do in order to change planes is to read the signs in the airport....based on your successful post I'm guessing you can read.....

  3. I went on my first "alone" plane ride when I was about that age.  I don't really think it's a big deal.  Have fun!

  4. It will be fine. Make sure your parents give you money for a payphone or give you a cell phone to borrow. If you can ask you parents to set up a bank account for you so you can access money for emergencies.

  5. Yes, I have seen parents let there seven year old fly alone, and I was disgusted by the parents for doing that. But at 16 yrs. old you can make informed decisions and the maturity level to fly solo.

  6. I think it is fine.  I have seen 10 year olds get on flights alone.

    Good luck flying!

  7. Yes. You will be fine.

  8. yeah, i would. I expect a 16 year old to behave and not act like a 6 year old. They are supposed to be more mature...

If you have any questions or you want some help, you can ask the flight attendants.

  9. Yes, it will be safe for you. Just be careful in changing flights and things of that sort cuz it can get confusing. Being a young woman it will be a lot safer than driving.  Have fun!

  10. yes i think so , me and my brother had travel alon when we were 9 and he was 11 and plus the flight attendance will be checking on you, i think you will be fine nothing bad will happen to you

  11. Yes, you have to grow up one day:) Good luck!

  12. It really doesn't matter what we think, only what the airline thinks and what your parents think. Since you're 16, the airline is not likely to be the sticking point.

We don't know you at all, and our opinion of whether it's a good idea or not to let you travel alone is of very little value. And even if I thought ot was of value, your parents are the ones who need convincing. Did you think that if a bunch of strangers on the internet said "Sure," that would sway your parents? All I can say is if it does, look for better parents!

By the way, I have no reason, either, to think that you couldn't handle it just fine. I simply have no basis for any conclusion, and it doesn't matter what I think anyway.
