  1. i have bipolar disorder and i ran a daycare center for a long time.  yes, my client's knew of my problem.

the only reason i quit the daycare is because we moved.

    that is discrimination.

  2. If she was on Medication yes.  If its the director and not the teacher then you really have nothing to worry about.

  3. Yes I would. The person who holds this position has obtained it through working at it, so they should be competent

  4. no ................... AND IN REPLY TO BILL O"s RUDE EMAIL TO ME ...  MY KIDS ARE MY LIFE AND IT IS MY JOB TO PROTECT THEM NO MATTER WHAT ...... AND IM NOT A STRANGER TO CERTAIN ILLNESS MY SON HAS ASPERGERS AND CHILDREN WOULD NOT BE LEFT IN HIS CARE EITHER. IT DOESNT MEAN IM PREDUCED AT ALL I JUST PROTECT MY CHILDREN

  5. Definitely not

  6. Yes.  I'm bipolar and the disorder does not define me.  It's not the disorder that makes a person. It's incredibly offensive to be discriminated against due to being diagnosed with a medical disorder.  It's not their fault, it's not my fault.  If they're in charge of children, there shouldn't be a problem.

Anyone who says otherwise is holding an ignorant position.

    Edit:

This is a response to an answer further down.

    Bill,

Maybe you should stay away from children.  Just a thought.  Some people actually have the disorder.  I had three separate psychiatrists in two states tell me the same thing.  My original psychiatrist waited over a year to finally give me the diagnosis.  If you compare me to how I used to be before medication and CBT, it's night and day.

Please refrain from using all capital letters.  Thanks.

  7. NO i babysit a 7 year old that is bi polar and even with medicine she acts out and is very very hard to deal with at times! I am sorry but this person should not be a sitter if she is bi polar. i would not take you child there!

  8. Is the director under doctor's care, receiving counseling, and maybe even medication?  Have you observed any activity on the part of the director that would be considered anger or out of control behavior?

There is a real stigma in our  society about mental illness.  Sometimes it seems that some people are throw-backs to the Dark Ages when it comes to associating with others who may not have "normal"  thinking.  (What is "normal.")

Just because someone has a mental disorder doesn't mean that they can't contribute to society.  In fact,  many people who have a mental disorder are extremely intelligent and thoughtful people.

Consider you decision carefully.  In the case of a day care center, visit it  before you place your child there.  Sit down and talk to the director.  Ask to see certification to operate a center under your state's guidelines.  Even ask if you can contact parents who have already sent their children to this day care center.  You can probably check with the agency in  your state that regulates child care to see if there are any reports about this center on file.

Don't fall into the trap of being prejudice against a person just because you heard someone else gossiping.  Check out the facts for yourself first hand.

God bless.  Go with the grace of God.

  9. Absolutely not. Even if that person is taking medication. But I am intrigued as to how you found out? But good for you in finding out.

    Maybe you can find an article on something like this, try;

  10. Yes. Because I would trust they had provisions in place to protect the child's welfare. Otherwise they would have been shut down right?

  11. WOW!! I can't believe how people are !!

Just because we have an illness doesn't mean we're scum!!!

I myself am bipolar and I'm a mother !! (and a d**n good one!!) I am educated, above average intelligence...And honestly, I've seen incompetent mothers with no mental illness!!!

Would you ask the same question if that person was diabetics? or had thyroid problems? or a phisical illness?

Come on folks!! Firts of all, if that day care center is a registered one, that person has been evaluated competent!!

My dentist is bipolar...does that make him more prone to drilling me to pieces!?LOL

You know, it's people with prejudice that makes us suffer the most!!

1in 4 persons has a mental illness...Most families have at least one member that suffers from one type of mental illness...

This just goes to prove, their's still a big stigma shadowing bipolar :(

*And you'd think/hope that with ALL our evolution, people would be smarter....

  12. Do you know how DISGUSTING your prejudice is?

    http://www.etfrc.com/ChemicalImbalances....

FOR STARTERS, THERE IS NO BIOLOGICAL TEST TO DIAGNOSE THIS ALLEGED DISORDER SO IT IS A c**p SHOOT WHO GETS THE JEW TATTOO FROM AUSCHWITZ ON THEIR FOREHEAD ANYWAY.

YOU REDUCE SOMEONE'S HUMAN DISTRESS DOWN TO A WORD?

YOU ARE DISGUSTING YOU NEED SOME SERIOUS EDUCATION.

AND ALL YOU OTHER BIGOTED FOOLS NEED IT TOO.

ANY ONE OF YOU COULD EASILY GET THIS LABEL. JUST ROLL  UP TO A SHRINK AND ROLL THE DICE.

10 SHRINKS, FOUR WILL SAY THE SAME THING, SIX WILL SAY A DIFFERENT THING.

    http://www.etfrc.com/ChemicalImbalances....

GOD THERE IS SOME MYTHS OUT THERE.

HEY GUESS WHAT. I WAS GIVEN THIS LABEL AFTER MY FAMILY MEMBER DIED AND I GOT UPSET! I'M NOT ON TRANQUILIZERS AND SEDATED FOR LIFE... THAT MAKES ME NOT A HUMAN IN YOUR BOOK I GUESS.

LISTEN TO ALL THE 'IF SHE WAS ON MEDICATION' YOU PEOPLE MAKE ME SICK.

ALL PROGRESSIVE MODERN PEOPLE AREN'T YOU, NOT RACIST, NOT SEXIST, YET I AM NOT AN EQUAL HUMAN BEING BECAUSE I CHOOSE TO EXERCISE THE HUMAN RIGHT TO NOT HAVE A CHEMICAL LOBOTOMY.

    I WORK WITH CHILDREN TOO.

  13. It just depended on if they were being treated for the illness. My daughter is dignosed with bipolar disorder and she does great when she's on her medication. But if she misses her medication you sure can tell it. She's tends to be more hateful towards others.

  14. I'm sure the bipolar disorder would be well controlled if the person had such a responsible position. So yes. A diagnosis doesn't make a person.
