  1. I would like the U.S. to get out of NATO and kick the U.N. out of NYC and become an isolationist country again like before WW2. We are in the mess we are in now because of NATO and the UN. We should not be entangled in everything that happens in the "Old World" and other Third World countries. We are not the World Police. We should concentrate on our own borders. That's why I voted for Ron Paul in the primaries.

  2. North Atlantic Treaty Organisation is what it is supposed to be, so how is it that countries outside the sphere of influence of NATO are allowed to join and furthermore others like Georgia

    are being encouraged to join?

The truth is that it is all about the power and influence of the U S government and the arms industry.

If you are in any doubt just check on who are the leading lights in the U S and U K armaments industry and all will be revealed.

  3. I think you're severely misinformed. These countries never wanted to be "Soviet States" They were overrun by the Russians and puppet regimes were put in place. They are freedom loving people who need security from Russia's reborn Imperialism,

  4. I don't think it is a huge mistake and many of the former Warsaw Pact countries have never hated the west but were occupied by the Russians after World War Two.  The choice is simple in many cases Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Baltic states, and I would include the Ukraine and Georgia.  Others in particular the more more western Asia then European countries are harder to say yes or no as they are not as stable and do not have as long a history with Europe or as much common history.  The reason is simply that the Russian invasion of Georgia was/is not a reaction to "Georgia's aggression" but was I believe planned well in advance by the Russians as a lesson to those nations about  getting too friendly with the west.  The threats against Poland for putting in a defensive missile system is nothing but an attempt to coerce as is the threats against the Ukraine about trying to join NATO or not allow Russian ships to use Ukrainian bases.  We turn our back and a new Russian Empire with the old Warsaw Pact nations will be either forced or threatened in to being Russian allies or satellites.  Not a new Cold War with communism but rather a new nd potentially more dangerous situation with a new Russian nationalist empire. James-A return to isolationism as we were between World War One and Two will just ensure that Russian andor Chinese domination will be a sure thing and sooner or later we would either have to fight them alone or wewould be cut off from raw materials; not just oil but many other rw materials are mainly imported as the US does not have all the natural resources we need as an industrial power.  Returning to what we were in the 1920 and 1939 era will just guaruntee the 1940's again.

  5. Absolutely!

Poland and Russia have fought dozens of wars throughout history; they are not allies.  The former Yugoslavia, certainly, Ukraine should be put on a fast track to NATO membership, and I have no problem with Georgia becoming a NATO member also.

Russia is not only fighting to return to its dominance, it is fighting the very idea of self determination and freedom.  Several former Warsaw Pact nations have made their decision to become more Democratic in their governments, and Georgia is ostensibly pro-western.  I think democracy is a better idea than autocracy or dictatorship, and we should always be willing to help those who embrace the idea of freedom.

  6. We can use all the allies we can get. USA is no longer perceived as a "good guy" in most parts of the world.Georgia is an exception and I think we still have some good will in eastern europe after winning the cold war. We SHOULD welcome these countries as allies, however, I think we need to stop short of being the "Police Force" that protects these states from their petty squabbles with Russia.
