Question:

Would you ban a constant visitor to your blog?

I've noticed on sitemeter that someone from a particular IP (not local) and server is constantly visiting my blog and looking at one page. I mean ALL the time. Twenty times a day, sometimes. Rarely less than 10 times daily. Every day for the past couple of weeks.

It's not an extensive or useful blog (no instructions/recipes/designs for anything etc) and there isn't even anything new on it for the past month, and yet they are coming back over and over, clicking on my pictures. It's at the point where I'm finding this really creepy.

Would you go so far as to ban the constant visitor? Or is that a total over-reaction?

  1. Go ahead if it creeps you out...it's not like this person is your friend, you don't even know him.  What does it matter if you hurt his feelings a little?  Maybe it will teach him a lesson not to be so creepy.

  2. first thing is to have the ip address traced find out of its on a public pc  and being accessed  through history or the address bar. if thats the case  then let it be its more than one person

if its private or a home then block it

  3. First, IPs are dynamic. It could be many people from the same locale, not only one. If not, it is awfully hard to prove, otherwise you could report the behaviours to the authorities.

Chances are if you don't know exactly what you are doing you can knock out untold numbers of people.

Do as you like, but chances are the numbers mean nothing.

  4. You put yourself on the internet you offer an invitation to anyone to look.  Now you want to determine how they can look - get over it.  Someone obviously has a very boring life but as far as I am aware that's not a problem.  They are not hurting you so why worry.

  5. I think if this is making you that uncomfortable, you should block them;after all, it's you blog!

  6. Why is it a problem?

Is your blog private?  Personal, like a diary?

You post stuff online because you WANT people to see it.  It is a little contradictory to post online and then get upset if people look at it.

ADD:  It sounds more like some kind of automated process.  You are only seeing an IP Address and not necessarily contact.  It could be that a person has linked a page to yours (like an RSS Feed, that is polling your blog looking for updates).

A stalker could, just as easily, save your pictures on their computer, without you even knowing about it (so they can see them anytime they like).  You kinda give up that level of privacy when you start posting on the Internet.

  7. I would say you have a secret admirer. woohoo.  No seriously, if your worried then yes I would block them.  It is definetly better to be safe than sorry in this day and age. You can find all sorts of crazy stores in the news that go back to internet stuff. So yes, if your worried and do not know this person then I would block them.  I mean the chances of something serious happening are slim, but still, you need to be comfortable.

  8. I don't think you should "ban the constant visitor" unless that person uses profanity, says something perverted or unethical. Until then, let them visit as much as they want.

    Thank you for asking.
