Right now, only Blu Ray offers true 1080p. High def TV broadcasts dont yet.

  1. If you buy a 720p TV it is also 1080i. You will not be getting the most out of your Blu-Ray player. Blu-Ray outputs pure 1080p Picture and yout TV will not take advantage of it. I bought a 1080p TV cheaper then a 720p from www.consumerdepot.com They sell open box TV's at 1/2 price, so may be worth checking out.

  2. No I wouldn't.  Many HD stations/channels are in 1080i.  DVD upconverters can go up to 1080p.

  3. Depending on the size even if I was going to use with Blu-ray I might consider it.  Most Blu-rays will output in 720p over component even so I am even happier there as this will still look better than regular DVD if the transfer is good.

I would recommend that you look at the sets and decide if the extra money is worth it. You should examine from your sitting distance.

  4. I bought a 1080i HDTV/monitor, and rarely watch satellite TV on it. It's mainly my computer monitor, and the occasional DVD (older movies...new ones suck). It kicks @ss for photo editing.

  5. Depending on the size of the TV and how close you sit to it you may not see much of a difference between 720p and 1080p even with a Bluray source. For regular viewing distances and TV's under 50" diagonal you would be hard pressed to see any difference.

  6. if the price was rediciously low yes I would but for like a spare bed room or something that isnt the main tv 720 is still very clear even if you end up connecting a blue ray player, alot of high def broadcasting is done in 1080i which is a interlaced signal that any 720p tv can transmit with no problem. Just really think about it before rushing out and getting it because even 1080p will have its comp real soon watch out for 1440p
